I don't know if anyone will know the answer to my problem but hey, it's worth a shot Right, i am having some serious problems with my internet at the moment and no one seems to know what the hell is going on. I have two questions about it if anyone would be kind enough to answer them or shed some light on the situation for me Question 1 Ok, so, my internet has always been a bit of a bitch. Ever since i got broadband it's disconnected me every single time someone rings or someone uses the phone. This really shouldn't happen but i don't know what's causing it. Also, when i do get disconnected because of this it will take a good 5-10 minutes for it to work again or i'll have to reset it about 3 times for it to work again. It's getting very boring doing this. I just want working internet. My Mum thinks it might be something to do with the frequency of our wireless phone but i don't think it is. She plugged in the normal corded phone and it still disconnected me and took me 10 minutes to get back on. Any ideas? Question 2 This one is a recent problem since say...Sunday? Ever since i got this wireless router so i could connect to the net on my new laptop. It took us forever to get it working and it did....for about a day. It still works now, but only to a degree. After a certain ammount of time my internet will slowly but surely begin to die. One minute sites such as Wikipedia, Amazon and Ebay will be working fine, but later, they'll all be down along with every single other site except for here and another forum i visit. Even then, after a while these sites will just go down. My internet however is still on. I'm still on msn, i can check my mail most of the time, but my browser won't load a single thing. This is beginning to be annoying because i can solve it by powering down my computer, turning everything (including the router) off at the plug and then turning it all back on again after a certain ammount of time. This will however give me a maximum of about 30 minutes internet time however. Any ideas on this one? I think it might be something to do with my ISP (Tiscali) but surely they can't be suffering such huge server errors?
If it's DSL, or whatever they call it where you are... you need new better quality filers and splitters. Get a new splitter that splits the modem cord and the phone cord.
Yeah it plugs into the phone jack in the wall and has 2 female plugs. One goes to the phone and the other to the modem... that filter might have something to do with it.
First issue sounds like the filter. Second issue sounds like it might have something to do with the router's hardware firewall (if it has one) shitting the bed.
1st question- yeah, you probably need a splitter 2nd question- I have to unplug everything once a week or I get problems with streaming video. Maybe you just need a better router, or the one you have is defective, or something like that.
Filters should be on all lines except for the line that the router is plugged in. But I don't think the filter would have anything to do with it, as it doesn't affect the internet connection; the filter is used to filter out the static from the internet in your phone line. Which router?
Not the filter, the splitter. Every phone in your house should have a FILTER, and the one that goes to the modem should have a splitter. That is, if you also have a phone in that plug. If not, the cord going to your modem should be right in the wall. MAKE SURE YOU HAVEN'T FILTERED THE CONNECTION GOING TO THE MODEM! Make sure that the router is set up properly and is forwarding the correct ports..etc.
