According to a recent News-Record.com interview with Warner Bros VP of Promotion Mike Rittberg, Linkin Park may be performing at a NASCAR event sometime this fall. Rittberg also mentioned the names of other Warner artists such as Metallica and the Goo Goo Dolls as potential performers at upcoming NASCAR races.

There is no confirmation from the band as of this moment as to whether they will perform or not, and with that no announcement of when and where, but the source of the comments is the reason this becomes newsworthy. We'll keep you posted as information becomes available.

That'd be awsome, seeing as I'm a huge fan of NASCAR. But to answer the question of what races happen in the fall, here's the short list.

09.17.06 - Louden, New Hampshire (Louden)
    09.24.06 - Dover, Deleware (Dover)
10.01.06 - Kansas City, Kansas (Kansas)
    10.08.06 - Talladega, Alabama (Talladega)
    10.14.06 - Concord, North Carolina (Lowe's)
    10.22.06 - Martinsville, Virginia (Martinsville)
    10.29.06 - Hampton, Georgia (Atalnta)
11.05.06 - Fort Worth, Texas (Texas)
    11.12.06 - Avondale, Arizona (Phoenix)
    11.19.06 - Homestead, Florida (Homestead)

Although not official, I hope it's true. NASCAR has had many bands play a little pre-race concert for them in the past few years, so this would be awsome!

Are any of those races big-name races like the Indianapolis 500 and Daytona?

Ehh, not really. The only one on that list that can be considered anything big is the last one because it's the last race of the year and it's a big "Championship Weekend" deal.

NASCAR goes to Indy the first week of August, I believe. But if anyone would play any of those dates, it would probably be Homestead.

There's the Indianapoilis 500, which runs indy cars, and is actually tomarrow, then theres also the Brickyard 400, in which NASCAR runs the first week of August, and has been running there since 1992.

I think I'd die if they performed at this one. I live like 2 miles from there, lol. But chances of that happening are probably slim to none. No one likes Delaware, heh.

I believe the race at Talladega is the EA Sports 500, which is a pretty popular race on the schedule. I doubt they'd perform there, though. NASCAR usually sanctions bands to play at the smaller races where the attendance has been dwindling for a while.

Why's that? I'd assume most NASCAR fans like loud and heavy music, which is exactly what Linkin Park brings at live concerts.

I thought NASCAR fans usually tend to like country music, atleast they do where I live. :closedeye Which is why it's hard to believe any of this, lol.

It depends on where you live. People who grew up in the south, or around the sport tend to lean to country music. But since 2001, NASCAR has really stepped away from country music during their telecasts. They still use it here and there for their video packages, but now they use anything and everything.

It might possibly be the race at Michigan Speedway in August. I know they usually bring in some big bands and one of the most recent bands was 3 Doors Down. That'd be cool because i'm there anyways to clean up.

The only date I can see LP possibly performing at is 9/9/06 at the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 (the last race before the Chase) but I doubt it will happen.

FOX and NBC have used LP's music a handful of times for video segements over the past couple of years but that has nothing to do with NASCAR choosing an artist to play at an event.

@Will - The Talladega event is the UAW Ford 500. The last EA Sports 500 was in 2004 and NASCAR chooses bands to play at big races that have the seats filled. They get the artists to attract viewers, not potential ticket buyers.
