I can't beleive I let this album slip past me last year. I popped NHL06 into my XBox for the first time in months today and fell in love again with "Bulletproof Skin", so I went straight to my computer and grabbed the album. For those of you who don't know, the band is fronted by ex-Bush vocalist Gavin Rossdale, whose solo song "Adrenaline" you may realize from the xXx soundtrack from a few years ago, along with previous Bush material. Their debut album, 'Distort Yourself', is a straight rock effort. But it's not just an album filled with clones of hundreds of other rock songs you've heard before. I find the lyrics are well-written and quite poetic. Overall, the music is catchy, the songs seem timeless and sometimes epic ("Mountains"), and it doesn't seem like something you'd get bored of quickly, if at all. Who else is a fan? www.institutemusic.com
I am. I'm a big fan of Bush (one of my favorite bands from the 90s period) and I wasn't disappointed with Institute as much as I could have been (I mean, come on, BUSH!) It's a really good album, and deserves some good listens. Gavin knows how to work the music biz.
Bush was actually my first concert I ever went to back on July 4, 1997. Such a great night. But anyway, I own the Institute cd and I've only listened to it maybe twice, lol. "Mountains" is definitely amazing. Something tells me I should listen to the cd a lot more. I don't know why I haven't.
I liked the CD for awhile, but the songs sound too much alike for me to listen to it a lot. Overall, I think they're good but no comparison to Bush.
Bush were my 3rd favorite band after Soundgarden and RATM in the 90s(so, no wonder I think Audioslave rules all). I heard an Institute song at a friends house, and I've been wanting the album, but never got around to it. Thanks for the reminder that it existed.
"Secrets and Lies" has to be my favorite song from the album. "Wasteland" and "Ambulances" are close behind.
"Ambulances" is pure gold, IMO. If you listen closely you can hear Gwen... they seemed to tone her vocals down, though.
