With current rumors pointing to a MacBook (new iBook) release this Tuesday, my big switch draws nearer. I have a few final questions, however. 1: What would be the easiest way to transfer files (mainly photos, video, some text, etc) from my old PC to the Mac? I was thinking of just burning a CD, unless someone has a better plan. 2: What program for Mac can I use to upload the songs off of my iPod? 3: Will the Photoshop/Illustrator CS2 I'm using on PC work on Mac as well? Like,` could I burn the install files on a CD and use them on Mac? Or would I have to download a new copy of it? 4: What is the best torrent application for Mac? Preferably something equivalent to uTorrent. 5: Would there be any advantage to buying it at a retail store as opposed to ordering it online? I'm thinking of just ordering it online to bypass sales tax, plus it's free shipping. ..there'll be more to come, probably.
1. Firewire is the best option. Or a crossover. 2. iTunes was originally made for Mac. 3. I think you'd have to download a new copy. Ask LJ. 4. Transmit? 5. Hmm...I doubt it, except for the store's own warranty. *shrug*
I realize iTunes was made for Mac, but you can't transfer songs from your iPod to your harddrive in iTunes, just the other way around. Unless I've been missing something. And what the hell is a crossover?
Oh, that's what you meant. There's a few programs for that; Google's nifty. Oh, I meant an ethernet crossover cable. It's just a special ethernet cable that you plug into both computers [instead of one computer -> router/modem].
Oh. Which one is faster/cheaper? Firewire or Crossover? and it seems Transmit is an FTP client. I found the iPod thing, Senuti.
that's one pretty torrent program. alright, well thank you, i guess i have everything figured out except the Photoshop deal. but i'll figure that out sooner or later.
1. Ethernet. Firewire's faster, but it only works transferring from one Mac to another. 2. Been answered I think. 3. You'll have to get a Mac version 4. Transmission or Azureus. 5. You don't have to wait for shipping at a store
http://chip.cuccio.us/must-have-mac-software/ http://www.opensourcemac.org/ I think if you want to change some parts of the macbook, like harddrive or memory you'll need to order it offline. Do you have a router, if so you can just share the songs from the pc to your laptop whenever you're home of course. I would say burn the files to a cd, both for transferring and back up purporses. Just in case there is something wrong with your macbook. btw, which color would you get? Black or white? (I would get a black version...or blue if they had it)
Okay, so Photoshop isn't both Mac&Windows compatible? Because certain things, like World of WarCraft are. But it's not that big of a deal to download it. LJ, I would just do sharing, but the thing is, I'm not the only one who uses/used the PC. My family does as well, and they probably won't to sign on to my user account on Windows for me to listen to music. Not to mention, they've been complaining about the 20gb I'm using for music, and I don't particularly want my mom to see songs like "I Fucked Your Dad" and bands like Anal Cunt on my iTunes. And yeah, I think I'm just going to do CD rather than Firewire/crossover. I'm still debating on the color. Black seems cool, but white has a clean elegant feel, to me at least. I'm planning on checking it out in person before ordering it, so I'll make my decision then. Assuming it comes in colors. and Girios, I didn't even notice that. I kept thinking to myself, what the hell kind of name is Senuti? But I guess it goes with their whole reversal theme. Also, do any of you know if Western Digital hard drives are any good? At Staples they're selling a 250gb external HD for $89, and I'm thinking of getting it to keep my music and video on. Plus, would a widescreen monitor (like.. 17 to 20") cost very much? I was thinking of setting up a desk to connect the MacBook to a larger screen with a MightyMouse and a keyboard for when I'm at home. But I'd like to get a widescreen monitor that would do the same resolution as the MacBook.
No more waiting First look - I love the new MacBook, graphics could be better but generally seem alright. Prices in the UK apple store are inflated though!
The black one is sexy...I want one Branden, if you don't get a black MacBook, I'm going to come over to your house and beat you over the head with the white one you got
