Mmhmm, yes, I know, the whole Official thing is blown out of proportion.

I see there's never been an official discussion thread about it, so I'm gonna start it now.

and for those of you that don't know....

Pantera is/was a metal band. they released 5 major-label albums (in order) called "Cowboys From Hell" (1990), "Vulgar Display of Power" (1992), "Far Beyond Driven" (1994), "The Great Southern Trendkill"(1996), and "Reinventing The Steel"(2000). They had four members-Philip Anselmo (vocals), Vinnie Paul (drums), Rex Brown (bass, and the late Dimebag Darrell (guitar). Pantera officially broke up in 2003, but in an earlier interview, Dimebag said that it was over about 2 years before that. Phil started numerous sideprojects including Down and Superjoint Ritual, while Dime and Vinnie (who are also brothers) started a band called Damageplan, who (in my opinion) created the best debut album to never be followed up. Damageplan broke up against their will in December 2004, when a fucking schizophrenic with a gun shot Dimebag 3 times.

    *ahem*

Vulgar Display of Power is my favourite album....your thoughts on Pantera?

and I wouldn't be surprised to see this thread sink into oblivion very fast.

    Derek...

This thread will sink into oblivion.

But Pantera is pretty good. I don't listen to them often, though.

Yes. We (Myself plus Testament) had a long talk about what we thought should happen to that guy that shot Dime. But anyawy. I love Pantera. VDoP was good, but in my opinion Cowboys from hell is by far their best. If Walk was on CBFH it would have been a killer album. I need to get myself that Damageplan CD aswell.

you mean you don't have it yet? *facepalm*

As much as I think Reinventing the Steel was overhyped, those RTS guitar picks and guitars were pretty cool.

Pantera wwas and always will be one of my favorite bands ever. Ok, so I may not have their records with the exception of their greatest hits and have Cowboys From Hell downloaded, but they still kick the shit in. And dammit, I miss Dime to hell.

Speaking of Dime though, Rebel Meets Rebel. So far the best album of 2006.

Greatest Hits is all you need, really.

or if you're a n00b wanting a first taste of Pantera, buy Far Beyond Driven.
