Is it possible, with any program, to remove vocals or music to create acapellas, or instrumentals? Is there a method with a wave editor, maybe? Or just something like that "Make your own karaoke site" out there? I wasn't sure where to post this, but D gave me clearance to put it here.

All answers are welcome, and I know there is no way to perfectly remove music/vocals, anything "Good" is alright with me. Thanks.

This should be in Tech Talk.

Programs like Cool Edit, Adobe Audition, Acid, and such should be able to do the job. Not perfectly, but it should sound good.

Sweet! Thanks. Do these have an automatic function, or, do you have to wave edit?

I don't know exactly. I would just believe there's some sort of setting to remove the vocals. I don't have these programs, but I know for a fact that they have that feature.

Take the Stereo track and select the left channel and and Invert/Flip it and make the file as Mono.

Then copy it and paste it into a new Stereo file.

Finally, select the left channel again and Invert/Flip it again, then save the file.

If that didn't make sense then I'm sorry :p

EDIT: Sometimes the results aren't that good though 'cause there's no real way of producing a really good quality instrumental version of a song without recording it yourself.

    thanx for the tips.
btw, i'm a new member. i wonder if you could do that with any audio mixer. i've got a program called audacity. i'm still learning to use it but it mixes stuff pretty well.

If you have an instrumental of a song and want an acapella (or vice versa), take the instrumental/acapella file and invert it over the original version of the song. It won't be perfect but it's the closest you can get to perfect without having the master tapes of the songs.

That's how DJ Zap made such good acapellas of the Fort Minor songs, once the instrumental album leaked he just used those with the original album versions.

Alright, i know this thread is old(ish), But this is something pretty similar to what i want to do, so i saw no point in creating a new one. Since what tasta said made no sense to me, can someone explain (in idiot terms if possible ) how to make an acapella if i have an original song, plus an instrumental of that same song? I'm using a trail version of Adobe Audition if that helps.

    It's easy:

    1. Load the instrumental into a program.
    2. Load the actual song.
    3. Invert the instrumental over the actual song.

It basically cancels out the music part. I'm not sure how to invert though.

Yeah, not knowing how to invert it over is a problem.. I don't have a clue how to do that. You'd think this would be so simple, but i can't find a program that'll do it with ease, or a tutorial in how to do it.

Yep it worked the first time, but i had to guess and pretty much do it myself cuz apparently what u said was totally confusing. Anywayz it worked the first time, the sound quality was crappy but it was at least audiable. But the second time around sth happened and only half of the singing part was removed and a minute later suddenly the voice appeared from nowhere :S...
