Intel Mobile CPUs are better than AMDs when it comes to laptop computers. The AMD will perform quite well but will use up your battery pretty fast and will generate a lot of heat (so will a Pentium 4, what you need is either a Celeron M or Centrino).

No laptop is suitable for gamers.

Sure, some companies claim they are, but they don't tell you that you get well under and hour of battery life.

I suppose laptop makers assume that you have your laptop plugged in for power when you use it.

Most laptops clock down their processing speed when they're not plugged in anyway.

If you're really looking for a gaming laptop then the AMD line is stronger. But you should know that a gaming laptop will weigh a crap ton load, have 0 battery life, be a pain in the ass to carry, and huge in dimension.

If you want a PORTABLE computer, ie what laptops are usually intended for, and are looking for battery life, very decent performance, and smaller form factor, the Pentium M line is the way to go. I can easily get 3 hours video playback, and close to 5 wordprocessing with mine, and its due to the Pentium M. Throw in a widescreen lcd and you've got a hell of a portable dvd player. The laptop will be smaller and lighter, thus more portable. Will you be able to play all games at crazy settings? No. But throw in a decent graphics card and it'll run basically anything out now very well, and newer games easily at medium settings.

Up to you, but when I think laptop, I think portable.

NO, no P4. they aren't mobile proccesors. my friends toshiba has a P4 and it overheats like the sun. so, avoid any non-mobile processors if your getting a laptop. intel has a good selection of mobile processors.

I'll admit I have a Dell laptop too [which I adopted one day, actually], and after a few reformats, it's pretty good. Not the best, but it's good enough.
