http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060313/ap_en_tv/people_isaac_hayes "What a dick" is the first thing that comes to mind.
Well I mean... a religion that has a story of an alien who captured a bunch of other aliens and sent them to the planet Earth due to overpopulation and froze them and shot them with a hydrogen bomb, then brainwashed them into believing they were either God, Jesus, or the Devil and entered the minds of humans because of trauma and must be released through Scientology techniques? Add a virgin birth or the splitting of a large mass of water or something. You know, something believable and realistic.
SHIT MOTHER FUCK SHIT! He's one of the best South Park characters. And yes, it's because of scientology, despite what he says. He had no problem singing numerous songs about banging women. Cartman trying to eradicate Jews from SP? No problem. The one where the Virgin Mary statue bleeds out its ass? He didn't mind that one. Critter Christmas? Possibly the most offensive episode to date. But the second they satire scientology...a cult whose beliefs are so far fetched that they actually had to put "This is what scientologists actually believe" on the bottom of the screen when he was explaining to Stan....Hayes gets pissed and quits. Fuck him. I just hope they don't try to replace Hayes voice....because that would just be impossible.
ahh you have got to be kidding me!!! ive watched south park since i was like in 4th grade and Chef RULED!!! and what now hes gonna quit...unbelieveable they should like make an epiosde where he gets sum STD from all the woman hes had sex with and make him die from that THAT'S HOW HE SHOULD BE KILLED OFF Ander lol
I hardly think it was a "dick move" on his part. He's just standing up for what he believes in -- I don't see anything wrong with that. I don't agree with scientology at all, and I think it's stupid, but they trashed it far more than they did any other religion/group (save for the Mormons). Think about it: anytime South Park made fun of Christians, it was just a minor aspect of the religion, such as when they were tired of some of the problems with the Cathloic church. It sucks that he left, yeah, but I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't believe in his choice religion, and I'll never see the point of it... but it's his choice. The series will be different without him, but I'm sure it'll do just fine. He's becoming less and less of a character with each passing season anyways.
Trashed it far more than any other religion? There's a fallacy in your thinking. South Park makes fun of all religious groups equally. They only make fun of minor aspects, as you said. SCIENTOLOGY IS NO DIFFERENT. The story that they make fun of, with the aliens and such (which I described earlier in the thread) is only a minor part of the religion, not the whole religion itself. I don't see how that episode is any worse than, say, Passion of the Jew. The fact that he doesn't mind that a series makes fun of any religion other than his is the 'dick move.'
No. Jews get it worse. In Passion of the Jew, Cartman turns into fucking hitler and tries to kick the Jews out of town. Almost every episode there is some remark by Cartman regarding Kyle. Scientologists did not have it worse. In fact, I think the Scientology episode made fun of Tom Cruise being in the closet more than it did the religion itself
How is that making fun of judaism as a religion itself? Answer: it's not. It doesn't really make fun of judaism at all, it finds a way to parallel the holocaust in a funny and symbolic way. The scientology episode is nothing like this at all. Throughout the episode it constantly makes fun of the religion. It is not "[making] fun of Tom Cruise being in the closet more than it did the religion itself." Have you even seen the episode? The majority of the episode is about Stan scoring high on a Scientology "test" and the Scientology followers believing he's the reincarnation of L. Ron Hubbard. The aspect of Tom Cruise was only shown for around 5 minutes (max) in the entire episode I would guess. It was a back plot just to make fun of Tom Cruise, and hardly what the episode was about. The entire episode they basically make satire out of Scientology the entire time. That is nothing like what they did to any other religion (with, as I said, the exception of Mormons/Latter Day Saints). In the episode making fun of the cathlolic church for the issue of priests molesting boys, it doesn't make fun of the religion at all. It makes fun of that fact, and says that you don't always have to follow and believe in everything the church says and does. Xero: There is no "fallacy" in my thinking. You're right -- they do make fun of pretty much everything equally, but they do not attack the same aspects of religion equally. I believe it was not a "dick move" because the only other group they did that with and literally attacked their beliefs and way of thinking was the Mormons, as I have already said. I'm surprised how many people watch the show here. You'd think with the anti-right wing sentiment here you'd all refuse to watch just because Matt and Trey are both Republicans
Scientology is a bullshit religion to me anyways. My entire family absolutely flipped out at the lunacy and downright craziness about it, when there was a special on it over a year ago. Their 'god' is some crackpot who existed only a couple of decades ago. This man was a HUMAN BEING with no proven godly powers or anything of the sort! He was a lunatic and his followers are lunatics as well. Has anyone even noticed that Tom Cruise used to be such an awesome and enjoyable actor (Jerry Maguire/MI: 1 & 2 anyone?) and that ever since he joined this religion he's become a paranoid crazy dick? The man jumps on Oprah's couch, has a ungrounded battle with Matt Lauer about Ritalin (listen to how pompous Cruise sounded), and impregnates a woman who's young enough to be his daughter. All this happened after he joined this religion. Does Scientology breed crackheads? You betcha . People bash Christians but at least we don't believe in Aliens or act like we're from an insane asylum (well..most of us at least). Everyone's entitled to their own religion and I hate to offend anybody here, but I just do not see the sense in scientology. Everyone famous that I've ever seen follow this, has acted outlandish and basically quite crazy.
Yeah I read the rotten.com (offensive site if you don't know btw so be warned) article on it. Pretty enlightening.
Scientology is a big joke I can't believe these celebrities actually believe some of the stuff they're being fed. Isaac Hayes used to be cool in my book now he's dead to me
He's not even dead to me. ISAAC HAYES... YOU NEVER EXISTED! [/Colbert] Oh and Ant, I apologize, my Engrish is killing me today. I can't word things right. Especially if it's a word with two or more sil a bills.
I think he's a dick because of how he left. He thinks religion shouldn't be made fun of, when he's been doing that for years now on the show. But the minute they parody his "religion", he kicks the shitter and quits. He should have gave Matt & Trey the finger when he first read the script way back when. I think this is only him quitting because they insulted his way of life. He was never effected before since he wasn't a Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc. Plus it's fucking Chef.
People interested in the "religion" are brought into a room where they are asked questions. These questions are similar to interrogation techniques used by the Veitnamese in where they are set up in a way that the person being interrogated will eventually believe that Communism was a good thing for the country (I'm going on a whim here. I can't exactly remember which country it was, but I do know that it was Communist). Now, replace 'Communism' with 'Scientology'.
all in all its his choice to make.. we cant force our opinion on his "beliefs" onto him no matter how wrong we think they are... we dont have to listen to his reasons to why he left if we dont agree with him, we just have to be respectful for his choice and accept that South Park is sans the chocolate balls.. Calling him a dick or thinking his act is dickatry isnt worth it.. methinks empathy is the word here anyways i think scientology is stupid.. but so are celebrities
Yeah but I can see South Park having its last season very soon now. Chef was the life of that show to many people, so no Chef = no South Park. Unless of course, they can find a funny new character.
Last season? I kind of doubt it. I don't think they'll just kill of Chef (although they could). They kept the mayor after the person who voiced her comitted suicide.
