If you would have just stopped there I wouldn't have said anytinhg. but the fact you are calling him overrated is total horseshit. I will agree he was shit in this tournamnent and probably should have sat out after he got that broken bone in his foot that he has been playing on the last 3 weeks. I see Pronger play night in and night out and he is definitely a huge difference on our blueline. He is worth every dollar he makes, well maybe not every dollar cause these guys are all overpaid. But I mean once he adjusted to the new NHL he has pretty much been a top 3 star for Edmonton every night of the season. But yes I will agree int he olympics he was totally useless.
I watch the Edmonton games when they come on on Saturday nights and he's done nothing to impress me. And believe me, I've looked. He's hyped to be one of the best defencemen in the league, often put in the top 5, but he's nowhere near that. He used to be great, but now he's just average. He's too slow. Over the last 3 seasons (about 150 games), he's a +1. Certainly not worth $6.25M a year, from what I've seen. And he only lowered my views on him when I saw his play in the Olympics.
Whoa. The Finns are doing so well. I think they're gonna win gold. 7 games played and 5 shutouts. Amazing. And without Kiprusoff. Pronger is still a great defenseman. I have no idea about how much ice time he usually gets in Oilers games, but it's way up there. He is not that fast, but everyone on defense looked slow against the speedy teams in the Olympics.
I'm going for Sweden, mostly for Mikael Tellqvist and Mats Sundin. That would also mean Daniel Alfreddson would win, and that poisons me, but I'll take the good with the bad.
I bet the Finns will win. Their defense is really solid, even without Salo in the lineup. And go Ruutu! But then again, the Swedes have the Sedins + Matty O (even though he's injured... shit)
Exactly, Pronger averages about 30 minutes of icetime a game. Trsut me coaches aren't stupid and they wouldn't play a guy for half the game if he was shitty and overrated. Like I said his play at the olympics was shit cause he was playing with a broken foot or at least a crack in his bone. The dumbass should have taken the time to rest and be ready for the NHL season. Like I said the guy handles the puck with such ease and rarely gets overexcited in a pressure situaiton where he will turn over the puck. Sure he may be slow, but obviously he has shown that he can exist in this league being slow and still palying 30 minutes a night. If it wasn't for Pronger, Canada wouldn't have even had 3 wins in the tournament.
I find that difficult to understand, because he was Canada's most frequently penalized player (8 penalties). The only other two players that were close to him were Lecavalier (16PIM) and McCabe (18PIM), but they both had 10 minute misconducts. He had about 4 cross-checking penalties alone. He's the guy that put Canada 2 men down in the Swiss game, and that led to their 2nd goal, leaving us the daunting task of trying to put two goals in against a hot goaltender, instead of just one. He also took a penalty late in the Finland game where we had just started pushing for a goal and he took all the momentum out of our sails. Granted he scored the winner against the Czechs, but I can't think of any other times he broke up a play or did anything worth noting that led to us winning games. From what I saw, he took penalties at bad times and caused us more problems than he solved.
I know I was jsut being an ass by making that comment just cause he had one of Canada's three game winners. I realized he sucked ass in the tournament, but alot of players did. Doubt Canada would ahve done any better if they had a different player other than Pronger. But if he was wearing a maple leafs jersey I am sure you would love him. He is the only reason the oilers powerplay is at what its at, otherwise they would easily be the worse in the leage in that department.
I hate half the players on the Maple Leafs and frequently call them out. Hah. Especially the overpaid ones (Belfour, Domi, Khavanov, Berg). I can see where you're coming from, though.
Canada (7.5/10) Pat Quinn: (3/10) Brodeur: (9/10) Luongo: (9/10) Turco: NA Blake: (7.5/10) Bouwmeester: (7.5/10) Foote: (/10)7.5 McCabe: (5/10) Pronger: (6.5/10) Redden: (7/10) Regehr: (7/10) Bertuzzi: (8/10) Doan: (7.5/10) Draper: (8/10) Gagne: (6/10) Heatley: (6/10) Iginla: (7/10) Lecavalier: (8/10) Nash: (6.5/10) Richards: (8/10) Sakic: (6/10) Smyth: (7.5/10) St. Loius: (7/10) Thornton: (5/10) I feel sorry for CBC. They're gonna have to give out so many rebates/refunds to the companies that aired commericals because the Men's Hockey team didn't make it far into the tournament.
hooray, edmonton finally has a goaltender that doesn't suck shit. we got roltson in suck a great deal, there are no good draft picks next year, and if you look at how he preformed 2 years ago, if he gets that back we are in the hole.
Roloson was a great addition for Edmonton, when you compare him to Conklin and Markannen. This guy brought Minnesota to the Western Conference finals three years ago, and Edmonton has very solid defense, so they've moved up to contenders in my books. Theodore for Aebischer, eh? Who does the Avalanche use in net while Theodore's out? I'd go with Kolesnik over Budaj.
Vancouver sure has stocked up. All the canucks fans were ragging on about how GM Dave Nonis hasn't done anything good since he got the job. Boy did they shut up. On the Official Canucks forum, 'Nonis Apology' threads were sprouting like weeds. Edmonton is going to be an even bigger problem for the Nux since they got Rolie as well as Samsonov. We're playing them three more times in the reg. season. On the plus side, I can't wait to light up the Avs again! It'd be deja vu if Lacroix manages to rip off the Habs again, we'll just have to wait and see in the long run.
lowe has been great with trades, (spacek, tarnstrom, samsonov, and rolson). i am watching the game on PPV right now, no goals yet, if you're wondering.
Nonis has been pretty good too. Signing Anson Carter was one thing that really payed off. Plus he got us Ouellet (who will definitely improve), Noronen, Brown, Carney, and Weinrich without sacrificing the core players. When all our defensemen are healthy, we'll have a pretty formidable d. Whoa. I didn't think the Oilers would already be playing Rolie. And I don't get why, of all the goalies they had, Morrison would be the one on waivers. Good pick-up by the Sens though,
Yah he did play tonight and let up 5 goals. But this is no worries as to Roloson being a shitty goalie, cause the Edmonton defense sucked ass. 3 of the goals were 2 on 1 or 3on1's. The other two the defence was jsut running around and Rolo just never really had a chance. The reason that Morrison was put on waivers is because Ty Conklin had already cleared waivers and got sent to the minors. Then it was a flip up between Jussi or Mo and they obviously went with Mo. More experience I guess. Markannen is a good goalie but only in a backup situaiton with rest.
Which teams do you think will make the playoffs? I'm going with the teams that are currently in playoff positions. Montreal and Edmonton both have solid goaltending now, so they're probably going to be unmovable. If there's a team in a Western Conference playoff spot that won't make the playoffs, my guess would be the Avs. Theodore has sucked this year, and now they're relying on Budaj and Kolesnik. It would be highly unlikely though.
It's going to be tough for the Leafs, that's for sure. But they're only 7 points behind Montreal and play them two more times this season, so their season rests on winning those games, for sure.
