I just reinstalled MSN Messenger 7.5, and I can't sign in. This is the message I get: "Signing in to MSN Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. MSN Messenger has made several failed attempts to sign you in. Your firewall may be blocking Messenger from connecting to the service. Please review your firewall settings. See the retailer's instructions for more information. 80048883" Now, I don't even have a firewall. So I clicked on the Troubleshoot button, and it takes me to a screen that scans the following: IP Default gateway IE's offline setting Hosts File DNS Proxy Sever Key Ports It comes up with a little exclamation mark next to Hosts File, with the following message: "Your hosts file contains MSN Messenger related entries which may interfere with name resolution. Click on the Repair button below to fix the setting and we'll try signing in again." I click the repair button, and it does nothing. So now I'm stuck...any ideas? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling MSN Messenger several times and the same thing happens.
Hmm... Other thing that comes to mind is that there might be a firewall either in a router (if you have one) or if you're running WinXP SP2, there's the Windows firewall (Start-->Control Panel-->Security Center-->Windows Firewall). Kill those first, try again. If nothing still, since you've tried to reinstall a few times, then try deleting the MSN entries from the registry (CAREFUL doing this) or use RegClean or similar programs to do it. If you're still having problems...then ask MS, or just reformat, it'll probably help a lot more than just MSN anyways
No router, I'm on SP1 because I've heard nightmare stories about SP2 fucking up computers. I have Windows Messenger, when I try to open it nothing happens at all. *Edit* I just did a System Restore to a couple days ago and it fixed it, nevermind lol.
Yeah they make it clear as day, it's just that the Repair option it gave me didn't do anything to fix it.
Although, you could always do it yourself if you knew how. The repair button never helps me. =\ I like the WLM team, they're a creative bunch of people, and apart from the UI, I like what they're doing, making it very user-friendly. Now, if only they listened to us beta-testers and got rid of the winks and nudges while it was still in beta.
Awesome 'puter-crashers eh? Oh, and the repair button is like everything user-friendly in WinXP - useless. For the love of shit, go into your command prompt and type ipconfig /release people, don't click the damn repair button on your LAN connection. It sucks ass.
There's a reason I love apatch. People try nudging me, then they're laughing at me, thinking I'm annoyed, then I get the last laugh saying that nothing happened on my aside, except for a message saying I was nudged.
Exactly. I miss Plus!, as I can't use it on WLM. Although, I don't remember how to get their IP addresses...
I thought all that did was reset your IP to 0.0.0.0 until you restart your computer? At least that's what it's always done for me. =/
holy shit you got that aswell?! i tried for weeks trying to fixit i even got my friend who is a real good hacker to see if he could, but he couldn't. so i had to make another accout and add all my contacts.
Oh shit, I just realised something. I didn't even notice that the error code that you gave was the same as the one posted in the WLM blog... [/FONT] source
Ah, crap, lol. It only happened when I updated from one build of 7.5 to a later one, so I just system restored to before I installed it, problem solved. I'll email them anyway though and see what the deal is.
