Let's hear it for one of the greatest genres of all time: SKA!

This is actually a somewhat recent development for me, spurred by my newfound love of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Goldfinger, and 33 West. If there's anyone who can recommend a good ska band to me, I would love to hear about it.

    Domo arigato.

Definitely listen to Catch 22, The Mad Caddies and Streetlight Manifesto. Those are my personal favorites. Also check out The Forces of Evil, The Planet Smashers, and The Slackers. :)

Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake and Crowned King are ones that come to mind.

The Mighty Might Bosstones were good live... Very lively

Operation Ivy, Suicide Machines, Leftover Crack, Choking Victim, The Toasters, Rancid (older stuff), and even some early No Doubt stuff...not all of it is technically ska but if you like ska, you'll like them.

Big D and The Kids Table and RX Bandits. You want some stuff that's Ska but won't seem it at first, try Minus The Bear.

The Skatalites, The Toasters, The Slackers (the best ska band around today IMO), Streetlight Manifesto, and the Aquabats (at least they sounded good when I was drunk LOL).

Have a friend who's really into ska so I know some of the big names.

    Streetlight Manifesto are fantastic.

Lyndie: I love you for shamelessly promoting my band.

I don't (personally) find Rancid's older stuff very ska influenced--around their third album they started getting into it, and then at the fourth (Life Won't Wait) it came out full blast.

I'm not trying to start a stupid genre argument or anything, I just don't want people listening to Let's Go or whatever and getting confused.)

Nah, I agree. Their earliest stuff is more straightforward punk, then they picked up the ska sound more and more. Old Rancid is awesome either way though, and it makes sense to listen to with Matt and Tim coming from Op. Ivy.
