I'm having some difficulty in deciding what MP3 player I want to get. I've narrowed it down to four options: - Logik HDD33 http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1969676247.1135957491@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccfeaddgimhjkjmcflgceggdhhmdgmk.0&page=Product&fm=6&sm=1&tm=undefined&sku=038706&category_oid=-15301 Now that one is 3.3 GB. Fine, except it's had £80 slashed off the price. Seems a bit odd to me that. Sony NWA1000 http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/st...kjmcflgceggdhhmdgmk.0&page=Product&sku=658878 It's 6 Gig. But expensive. And it'll take me a while to make up the rest of the cash as I only have £80 at the moment. Another thing is Sony's dumbass ATRAC format, so the thing wont play WMA's. I'm guessing that means you're forced to use Sonicstage, can somebody tell me? The only real way i'd justify getting this one is to shove it in my best friend Joe's face. iPod Nano http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/st...&sku=139015&fm=6&sm=0&tm=undefined&tabIndex=1 2 GB Nano. Fine, little bit expensive. The problem I have is that I have thousands of songs that'll need converting into AAC format. Rio Pearl http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/st...1&tm=undefined&sku=267867&category_oid=-15301 This is the one i'm leaning towards. 6 Gig, plays MP3 and WMA, so i'll probably be able to do everything from Windows Media Player. And it's got the same storage as the Sony, and it's a lot cheaper. So, i'm hoping you guys can help me out here and advise me on which one to get. If any of you have any of these MP3 players and could tell me about them, that would be awesome. Thanks.
i say ipod but the rio looks like a nice investment. anything with a price slash probably isn't what you want...and Logik is not a company i have ever heard of. no sony. ever.
The Rio is the way to go. I have a Forge 512MB (looking for a new one purely because of storage), and it's never given me any problems, despite repeatedly being dropped to the ground, and on one occasion finding its way down a full flight of stairs...and not one issue. Rio=Awesome.
Well the nano is definently the niced appearence wise, though if your not interested in that at all the rio seems the best. Sturdy player with a decent amount of storage and a lower cost. P.S. what format are you songs in, the nano does support mp3......... right. The previous ones all did. Or is your music in wma?
If Rio is so awesome, then why is mine in pieces right now because it's useless? And why did I have to end up getting a RMA also? You really have to be careful with HDD-based players. I no longer trust Rio's HDD players, so I'm iffy about recommending you buy the Pearl. My Rio Nitrus has been dropped numerous times in the past. Didn't last. The only reason Joe's lasted was because it's flash-based, so there's no important parts in danger. Out of all the mp3 player companies I've heard, I've never heard of Logik, so I think you should stay away from them, but that's only my opinion. Sony, well. They have a great reputation in the mp3 player market, last time I checked. Apple, they're currently owning the mp3 player market with their iPods. I doubt you'll have any troubles with them. And the Nano is kick-ass looking player too. Yeah, this is the player with least capacity, but it's the best quality one. If those 4 players were my choice, I'd get the Apple, just because of their quality. My next choice after the iPod, is the Rio, then Sony. ...and if all of your music is .wma, which I sure hope not, it'd be a really good idea to convert to .mp3, as it's a wider supported format.
i would actually recommend getting a creative zen micro, i got one today, and its really nice, got radio and everything. but yeh, i mean, i heard mixed reviews about rios and logiks in general, also consider the iRiver H10 if you can find one, thats what i wanted but i couldnt find one.
go apple. yes i know they are a bit expensive, but they are, in my opinion, the most user friendly of them all and they last.
Apple would be my number one choice. As Tomi said, Apple is currently dominiating the mp3 player market with their iPods. As expensive as iPods may be, they are definitely worth it. Especially the Nano's, which have flash memory instead of a hard drive, so it's not as easy to break as an iPod with a hard drive. Not to mention you have a year's warranty, so if you break it anytime soon you can just go turn it in for another one. If you choose not to go with the iPod, then matthew51b's suggestion is next best. The Creative Zen Micro. I have a few friends who own one and they say that they work great. In some ways, they are better than iPods. So, you might want to take a loot at that. Sony is also an excellent option, because they are great as far as mp3 players go. Rio is next, but I've never seen one of their players or used one so I really don't know what to say about them. Logik, I have heard of. But don't get it because it's obviously not a popular business and you can't really know whether their products are reliable or not. Especially if 80 pounds are slashed off of it's original price. So, Apple is really the way to go here, Feenix.
Okay, thanks for all the help guys. I'm kinda stuck between two now; The iPod Nano and the Zen Micro. Zen Micro http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/st...age=Product&sku=333860&fm=6&sm=1&tm=undefined It's 6 Gigs, so three times what the iPod is. It's a hard drive one though, and more expensive. Although I do have a 10% off voucher. Argh, it's becoming a lot more difficult than I thought to make a decision.
The Zen is a great device with a lot of capabilities and features such as FM recording and the sort. If you want a great player with the extras but don't mind going through the extra trouble and time of setting up the software, then go with it. Take into consideration that the MediaSource is a lot harder to work with, IMO, than iTunes. If you are going to use windows explorer, then no problemo. If you have and want to use iTunes and like the Apple interface, go with the nano. Also go with the nano if you want something very easy to operate and synchronize. IMO, I love easy mp3 players. That's why I decided to purchase an iPod (well...ask for one for christmas) It just works...
If you really want more space, go with the Zen. If you want something easy to use, go with the Nano. If you want all of these extra features, like what Glenn said,, go with the Zen. And if you want a good looking player, go with the Nano. I'd take the Nano, because I'm used to iTunes, and all my music is on there. So yeah.
Changed my mind yet again. I was debating whether to get a Sony PSP because it's an MP3 player, plus it does games and movies. But I think i've settled on the Sony Walkman. The 20GB model. Of course if somebody posts now with some horror story about one I'll probably change my mind again.
If you're going to get a PSP, make sure you: a_ are going to get a large memory stick, which is expensive. b_ don't mind carry around the psp, and possibly getting it scratched up.
Rio sucks in my experience. I had it for less than a year and I had battery problems with it. I would charge it for the entire night and it would still die within 7 hours of being taken off the charger even though it wasn't on.
You should have emailed Rio to RMA it. That's what I had to do when mine shit out on me. I was a few weeks off my warranty and the guy was nice enough to allow me to still RMA it. Although I had to go through a complicated process as my serial number scratched off my mp3 player.
i love my Zen to bit but recently the place where you put your head phones has been playin up - like when you move the socket the sound may shift to one ear phone - but it will sort itself out... its kind annoying though
I have the same problem and so does everyone that I know that owns one. I'd still recommend a Creative Zen though. Pay half as much as an iPod and get twice the music.
