First, from 311 Management: "We did not intend to discuss this incident publicly, but since rumors are beginning to spread we'd like to set the record straight. On November 24th (Thanksgiving), 311 had the day off in Baltimore, Maryland. Chad Sexton (drummer), SA Martinez (vocals) & P-Nut (bassist) were relaxing in a hotel lounge with their wives and friends watching a basketball game on television. Scott Stapp entered the bar. He appeared intoxicated. He drank a shot at the bar and then threw his shot glass, smashing it on the bar. He was acting belligerent and got into an argument with patrons sitting at the bar. He then sat down next to SA and his wife. He made a disrespectful and crude remark to SA's wife. Chad and SA asked him to step away. He then sucker-punched Chad. Scott was looking for a fight - and that's what he got. A fight ensued. Soon the police arrived and everyone was restrained and questioned; and Scott was ultimately asked to leave the hotel." Second, from Nick Hexum, lead singer of 311: "No, you're right, the 311 guys did absolutely nothing wrong. I showed up right after and while he was being restrained he pointed to me and said, "I'll kick your fucking ass!" I just laughed because I'd never even met the guy. As I said in Rollin' "Better bet I regret that moment of scrappin'." Violence should be avoided but in this case it was not avoidable. I'm REALLY glad I wasn't there because, as my Halloween costume implied, I had been training as a light heavyweight boxer for about six months in the first half of this year. I've given it up (I wanted to pursue something more peaceful.) You guessed it, now I do Yoga! Though I don't spar or practice boxing anymore, the form and technique are ingrained in me from doing it 3 times a week for 6 months. Chad and SA took care of business just fine but it would have been worse had I been there. His girlfriend tried to apologize for his behavior like this: He's on pills, illegal drugs, and he's very drunk. He's a big fan of 311 and he's having a lot of emotional problems. I think about 311's overall message quite a bit. My concern was that the message of the song "Don't Tread on Me" was already kinda hard ass and though I was expressing frustration about politics I want to keep being known as a positive band. I didn't want this to skew our reputation. I don't think it will. It's just important that people understand that by all all accounts he was the aggressor. That's why the cops made him leave the hotel not us. Back to the music. N" And my opinion: Way to take it to Stapp, Nick. Always love 311. Always have, always will
I think it's kind of lame how the 311 guy kept referring to his band's songs and bragging about how badly he would've messed Stapp up if he had been there.
That is utterly ridiculous. Stapp needs to... I can't say that here. There are Play Skool toys present.
yeah I second that. Scott Stapp is stupid I like Creed they are my favorite band but no wonder everyone hates him he's always getting into stupid fights like this. But I'll still see him if he comes to town
