Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington have been chosen as panelists for the New Pantheon Awards, a successor to the discontinued Shortlist Awards. The New Pantheon awards focus on lesser-known musicians and hope to shine the spotlight on artists you may not have heard of before. Previous Shortlist Award winners include Sigur Ros in 2001, N.E.R.D in 2002, Damien Rice in 2003, and TV On The Radio in 2004. The Pantheon Awards hope to carry on the tradition the Shortlist Awards left behind, and make the event bigger. Usually, the awards are handed out in a low-key ceremony with little press, but New Pantheon co-ordinator Tom Sarig hopes to make it a higher-profile event: "I want it to be an event, a cool concert that will be attended by artists like Alicia Keys or Missy Elliott, which is an area where I thought the Shortlist was lacking ... We're planning on holding the show in Los Angeles just before the Grammy Awards [on February 8, 2006], kind of like how the Independent Spirit Awards are always held right around the Oscars." Bennington and Shinoda join the likes of Beck, Dave Matthews, Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie), ?uestlove (The Roots), Keith Urban, Elton John, Elijah Wood and John Cameron Mitchell on the panel. A short-list (no pun intended) of ten nominees will be announced at the end of November. Source: MTV.com Thanks to Justin!
