Hey everyone, I just viewed Linkin Park's latest, "Faint" video, and thought it was ok, but just wanted to let my opinion be heard, being this is a discussion forums. Anyways, I know alot of people here, and know that they respect opinions, so I'll just let my mind speak. When I was in class, (actually during my lunch period) I pushed my friend off a chair and said, "Move punk! The new LP video should be on Launch today!" After a few remarks like "LP sucks!" and.. "Idiot! I was watching PDiddy and all the ho's!", I got onto the computer (the only one with speakers in the room) and I started Faint up. Of course, I watched it all...and...I just wasn't impressed with the video as I have been with those in the past. I don't know if Hahn directed this one ( been busy lately, and that info. hasn't been passed before my face yet), but it doesn't look like his work. Not that this video is bad, but it just isn't LP. I know, you might think "Who the heck is Elie, and who is he to define LP?" But come on guys, LP created their music without a pure defintion, and let US, the listener define it, and that's what I'm doing now. I just see this video as a "Points of Authority" type video... There is no innovation, no nothing...just giving some fans some music and letting them be in the video (as if they were seen). I'm not as sour right now as it may sound, but I hated pushing my friend off a computer just to see a concert video...when I hoped it would be something a little bit more of LP. Something a bit more creative, and not so "Sum 41 and Blink 182". Just my opinion. BTW, I didn't even bother to post this at LPMB. Over there, all they do is flame, then say, CHester was hot in the vid, than spit on me for my opinion, than close thread because of flaming.
Well it was meant to be like that because the band had thier back turned to the camera and the lights off thus symbolizing the line: "Dont turn your back on me! I wont be ignored!" And thats why u can see the band after the bridge, because they will no longer be ignored and thats why you can see them clearly. Do you like it better, now that you understand it?
I appreciate you pointing that out Derek, but honestly, you being my friend, I won't lie to you, it doesn't make it worth anymore ( not that much more) with that definition. It's the fact that it just looked like they hit two birds with one stone, making a concert, and shooting a video. I mean, i've seen MUCH better videos from LP.

I'll admit the one line that escaped my mouth alot during the video premiere was "...this is different for LP, wow." So yeah, you got a point.
Of course I told my friends, this is just a different side. But I expected a different side of LP would to be something new...not a concert scene. if I wanted a concert scene, I could have played some notthingham stuff...
The faint video bored me to death. Nothing special about it. I even liked the $2 Bill Concert video better.
Well, you forgot what Linkin Park are crucially about: giving back to the fans. The video gave back to hundreds of fans from LPU as they attended this video shoot in L.A. It wasn't a concert because all they did was play "Faint" over and over. This isn't like "Points of Authority" because we're not seeing a bunch of clips from live concerts: this video actually has a point in which Derek pointed out to you. I loved the video and give it 2 thumbs way the hell up. I'm not mad at you by the way.
Just saw the video and I enjoyed every minute of it. It's refreshingly different and just so well done, it's far more than just a "live" video. Don't quite understand where all the criticism is coming from, I know appreciate a change from the CGI stuff they've done before. Great song, great video.
The video's got to be my favorite as of now, with "Crawling" in second. The theme of the video is so simple and yet so effective and it just looks so damn cool.
Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike this idea. It's just the fact is, I don't care what the video meant, it was just a concert. By flipping some lights and having different camera angles, I don't believe that should add to the depth of a video. I believe work should add to it. The previous ones showed work. IN THE END = Many sets, many everything. PAPER CUT = creativity, dark sense ONE STEP CLOSER = break through video, I liked it alot POINTS OF AUTHORITY (reanimated) = CG, great. SIB = Also great, new, but great. FAINT = What's so new about it? I've seen it a million times. Is it creative? No, I can go shoot a video of me screaming on a ledge with a backdrop, flip a couple switches, and make up some deep, philosophical meaning. It just doesn't amount to the LP status I have grown accustomed too. Again, just my opinion.
So basically you're saying that because LP tried a different approach to their video they're not up to their own standards? In that case then I guess LP wasn't up to their own standards with Reanimation even though a ton of work was put in to it, just like the video.
thanks for posting in the right forums. [/sarcasm] *moves* it's simple, not every one of LP's videos have to be as good as the previous one. I really liked the basic theme of it, and the last minute was just too great. Lots of little goodies put in the last min too, you need to watch it alot to grasp the effects they implemented. It's in my top 3. I found the clearer XVCD version much betetr than the Launch video itself. It was really blurry. When the vid comes on TV, it's the best.
I think the Faint video rocked, there was alot of energy in it. I really dont know any other way it could have been done.
My 2 cents: They did the Chester jump just like "In The End", which was cool, since he hardly does it in any videos. The darkness was a great part of video, which gave the feeling of being looked down upon. And the behind-the-back camera angles give life to the lyrics [IMHO].
I loved Faint. it didn't have to grow on me, I loved it the first time. I liked it better than OSC and Somewhere I Belong. I thought the whole concept was so smart and unique, I was very impressed. People complain that 'you couldn't see their faces" and that that took away from the video, but if you had seen them from the front the whoel time with no darkness, THEN the video would have sucked. without those compnents, it would have just been a regular live show type video. I just dont think people understand the video, and thats why they dont like it.
