Not only that, virus makers can hide anything they want away from everything. Rootkits are very dangerous.

And the award for the most-pointless post ever goes to...

I had a night to sleep on it (not really) and I decided that Sony fucking sucks. It's a good thing very few bands I listen to are on any of their labels. Turning off auto-run won't be that big a problem. But still the fact they're doing this is overly ridiculous and HIGHLY FUCKING ILLEGAL SONY OMGAWFZZZ.

I personally feel sorry for the artists. I bet most of them on Sony BMG do not want this sort of crap on their CDs, it takes away their sales because now that the word is out, no one's going to buy Sony CDs.

If you come across a Sony CD that you want, you should probably still support the artist by buying it from iTunes (there's DRM, but nowhere near as bad as Sony's. You get unlimited copies, unlimited iPod transfers, and playback on 5 computers with iTunes), or pirate it and buy a tshirt or something.

I think the only CDs I'm going to buy for now on are The Rising Tied or anything else having to do with Linkin Park (just because Mike is awesome and he interacts with his fans). Anything else I'm downloading.

After reading this I'm convinced that it's pointless to buy CDs anymore, considering the fact that even though I'll buy LP related CDs to support Mike/LP, they probably wont see a dime from it.

We really need to boycott buying CDs. The major record labels must fail.

You know what's worse, spyware/adware are starting to use these "rootkits".

    visit here: removal instructions

To see if you have a rootkit on your machine, check this out: Rootkit Revealer

Also, for a more indepth info on RootKits check out Security Now, it's a podcast.

So, buying cd's are pretty much more dangerous then downloading a cd. Wow. Thats really sad that sony has to do this, I mean, this DIScrourages buying cd's. Who'd want to buy a cd then get a Virus downloaded into there computer?

I hope Microsoft's Tech Support lines become overloaded with complaints and sue Sony.

    :shifty:

Is this only ripping it on your computer?, or do you get this by just listening to it on your computer?

Just by inserting the CD in your computer.

It makes use of Windows Autorun. When you put the CD in your computer, the virus installs itself. Best way for Windows users to avoid the problem is to either disable autorun or buy a Mac :p
