i have been looking over some of Linux builds and i'm trying to decide which ones seems the best. so far i have come across Unbuntu, Red Hat, and Fedora Core. Are there any better ones?
Redhat was discontinued awhile ago, so whatever Redhat distro you get will be old. However, Fedora, which is current and in development, is based off RedHat's code. It's also very easy to install. I've never tried Ubuntu, but I've heard it's good. Gentoo is an absolute bitch to install, if this is your first time using Linux, don't even attempt it. You have to know Linux and it's commands to install Gentoo, but once it's installed, supposidley it's a good distro. I've never succeeded in installing it (I've tried many times) so I don't know for sure. Mandrake is said to be the best for beginners, but it's like the Windows of the Linux world: Bloated, too user-friendly and slow. Even if you're new to Linux, if you have half a brain, you'll be fine using Fedora without the extreme user-friendlyness crap. Then, there are a shit ton of other distros, but I think I covered the most popular ones (Except Slackware and Debian which fall under the same category as Gentoo; not for newbies)
Can someone explain to me in normal terms (or at least somewhat easy terms) what the hell is so great about Linux?
Window and DOS. And much more stable... Right? [/b][/quote] Linux has absolutley nothing to do with Windows and DOS

Linux is an open source, very versatile operating system. So versatile, I have it on my iPod, and you can pretty much run it on anything that processes.
