How much freedom do you receive from purchased music from iTunes? Can you burn CDs with it? Transfer it to a non iPod player? In what format do the songs download?
Yes you can burn CD's with them. They are downloaded in a .m4p format, so to put them on other mp3 players you most likely will have to convert the format.
You can burn them but non iPods can't play them. So, what you do is burn them to a CD, and rip the CD into MP3 format
Actually, not. Every since Todd showed me how to play the songs off the iPod and save the HD space, I've been using iTunes more often and once you get to know it, it is the best music player out there. On the whole, it's better than Winamp, although I do miss that ultra quick loading player...
To download the music off their store, but not to use the program itself to play music you've already 'obtained'.

Nothing wrong with supporting bands every once in awhile. [/b][/quote] Exactly, and getting music without paying would be....................................... ILLEGAL
I can't understand why you wouldn't be able to play them on other MP3 Players. What format is it in to prevent from such use. My Zen Touch works with a lot of formats, including protected wma's, but the iTunes music store probably doesn't give you songs in that format.
AAC. Other players play AAC files, however, none of them, besides the iPod, support the DRM encryption iTunes uses.

Well, the DRM does prevent direct conversion to other formats. Of course, the best known workaround is to burn the iTunes songs to a CD (which can be done with the DRM through iTunes) and then rip the burned CD to MP3 format which is DRM free and can go on any MP3 player.
To strip the DRM protection of the iTunes songs, use a porogram called JHymn which works on both osx and xp.
