    For rock/metal, I'd have to say either Roine Stolt (Flower Kings, etc.) or John Petrucci (Dream Theater).

    For jazz, Levon Ichkhanian is just amazing......has the chops and the songs.

    Rivers Cuomo (I know, the guitar solos and stuff in Weezer aren't that fancy or anything, but seriously, listen to Avant Garde. Horrible band, but Rivers can shread...like woah...)
