i just got into my college dorm and i'd thought i'd play some counter strike source, but i found that it couldn't connect to the server. i talked to my roommates and they had the same problem or similar ones like extrememly high ping. i talked to some tech guys at the school and apperently in the newer dorms (the ones i am in) connections block UDP packets which are required to play games online most of the time. does anyone know how to fix this?
Unfortunately, schools and collages block these sort of things to stop people playing games. That said, there's a possibility it could be circumvented. But not by anyone who doesn't know a lot about computers, and doesn't have the right software. Go find a computer nerd, befriend him and enlist his help. Alternatively, sleep with the network administrator. That's what I normally do.
They block UDP packets to stop people playing games. Learning establishments are mostly under the impression that people with access to games in their dorms will simply play them all day instead of writing that all important paper.
