Who do you think would be some of the great vocalists of all time. Not just because you like them, because they can pull off some crazy shit with their vocals. Robert Plant's voice was so unique and he could sing so well live. How the west was won DVD is amazing. Chris Cornell's Temple of the Dog & Soundgarden stuff is amazing. Say Hello to Heaven by TOTD is just incredible. Scott Weiland: He may not be able to sing as high as the clouds but he sure is versatile. Comparing some of his STP albums, he sounds so good and so different on each of them. Maynard James Keenan is another versatile man. His shout is godly, especially on The Grudge and that final scream on Judith And he can pull off some mellow stuff like Peace Love & Understanding. thoughts, comments?
i think u'd have to base it off of what they sound like in concert because recording studios make singers sound alot better then they really do so id have to go with davey havok - afi the singer from coheed (but you either love or hate his voice) and ya i agree with chris cornell
My favourite singer is Mike Patton. He gets a lot more recognition for the weirder stuff he does in Mr Bungle and his current hip-hop projects, but people forget that he does also have a great range of melody. Listen to Faith No More's The Real Thing (the song, not the album... actually, try the album) to see just how versatile he is.
Didn't he do something with Dillinger Escape Plan? An EP, or something like that? [/b][/quote] Yep. Irony Is A Dead Scene.
Reese Roper of Roper, braveSaintSaturn, and (formerly of) Five Iron Frenzy. He has an amazing range first of all, and he's the only guy I know that can pull off a high-pitched 80's metal scream without having to wear tight pants.
M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold. He's got a great scream and a great singing voice as well, it suits the music of the band so well.
I bet that some diehard Linkin Park fan is going to come to this thread and reply with, "Chaz cause he's so good" or something like that. Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin.
Chester Bennington does have a nice vocal range. Ian Watkins and Jamie Oliver of the Lostprophets do really well with vocals. Incubus' Brandon Boyd has an amazing voice as well.
M. Shadows Chester Bennington Freddie Mercury I'm just naming some that I saw in this topic and agreed with.
Myles Kennedy (Alter bridge) Brandon Boyd (Incubus) M. Shadows (Avenged sevenfold) Brock Lindow (36 Crazyfists) Chino Moreno (Deftones) Corey Taylor (Slipknot)
Technically great singers... Maynard (Tool/APC) James LaBrie (Dream Theater, his range is crazy!) Daniel Gildenlow (Pain of Salvation/The Flower Kings, one of the most versatile singers) Cedric (The Mars Volta) But my favourite singer, especially technically, is: Russ Allen (Symphony X) - He has the craziest vocal range I've ever heard, and his pitch accuracy/tone is spot on. He can sing very operatic then go into some growly heavy metal vocals resembling Ronny James Dio. He can also sing Classic Rock/Blues really well, like he pulled off in his new solo album RA's Atomic Soul.
