This is the way I look at it: If it makes you feel good then do it. Just remember, "He did it all for you."
I'm an atheist and I listen to christian rock and sing along to the lyrics. Does that make me hypocritical? No, I'm just singing along. Singing the lyrics is not personally conveying the message, it's just your expression of how you like the song. Go right ahead, you shouldn't be afraid that God will smite you for singing along to good music.
very good point. just because you dont agree with the lyrics doesnt mean you cant listen to it. you were not the person who wrote the lyrics, so it may or may not be what you believe in. a good song no matter what the lyrics, is none the less a good song. Religion does have an influence on the music you listen to. I, also being a Christian, listen to about 85% christin metal. the rest is all secular. i listen to bands such as slipknot, mudvayne, Marilyn Manson, System of a down, etc, almost as much as i listen to my christian music. you may not agree with the lyrics, but it is probably a really good song. it all depends on how much you let the lyrics influence your opinions.
I have been listening to Slayer for the past 3-4 years and i love their songs. And any metal fan will tell you that Slayer is one of the most anti-christ bands of all time.I am a Catholic and despite listening to slayer I am still alive and kicking.so keep listening
if the song and what it means to you contradicts your core beliefs and you find yourself believing the song instead then maybe you need to sit down and take a look at your priorities. Its all about how much your relationship with jesus or your religion means to you vs. what the world means 2 you.
Exactly, I definitely don't agree with alot of the stuff that Marilyn Manson promotes and sings about. But I mean the guy makes catchy music and is a great musician. so its not gonna stop me from seeing that and not listen to his music.
I felt guilty about saying "when angels deserved to die" in a S.O.A.D song when I was Muslim, but I now know that it's just a song. If you like the melody and don't agree with the lyrics, it's not like you acctually feel those emotions, they're just words. God can see your true intentions, I don't believe that but if He is really out there, then I'm sure He can. *Notice the capital letters as a form of respect, I am Atheist.
If you sing along to something that doesn't mean that you have you mean it. Same goes for listening to what you like to listen to, it doesn't mean it has to be conditioned to your believes. For example if I sing "Your eating me inside"[/random], that doesn't mean that you are eating me inside If you get what I mean :chemist:
Maybe I am just thinking this becuase so far I haven't experienced the loss of someone so close to me.. and to be honest I hope I never do, but ofcourse I will. Death happens to everyone, there is no such thing a immortality to humans, only God is immortal for he shall live forever, but we all will -sooner or later- face death. And I don't undertsand feeling angry towrads death, I understand sorrow and sadness, ngeativity and sometimes guilt, depending on the situation. Besides, sometimes althought it might never seem like that, but sometimes death really can be relief for the suffering, weather its the 'victim' or whoever is around him/her. For eg. one of my closest friend's aunt had been suffering from breast cancer almost 1/3 of her life, and by suffering I mean really suffering, that she herself wished death upon herself, so did her family around her, becuase by death.. the pain might finally go away.. but that is obvious. In other cases, seeing how now one can really predict the future, what lies ahead can be so horrible.. far worse than death. And I totally believe that.
