I bought A Perfect Circle's "Thirteenth Step" today and eagerly brought it back to my van so I could listen to it. The problem was, it was a "copy controlled" cd, and my van's cd player had alot of difficulty playing it. For one thing, it took two minutes to read the cd, and then it skipped to track two. I can't seek up or back through the tracks on the cd, nor can i put it on random play. It has to play from start to finish, no skipping ahead or random play. Personally, it pisses me off. I had the same problem with Nickelback's "The Long Road". It makes me want to boycott the bands who are on these labels. Why do they seriously think these controlled cds are going to stop any piracy at all? If it does, it's a very small fraction of a percent. All it does is create playback problems. Those are the only two cds I know of that are controlled. Do you know of any more? What are the bands' labels? Does it annoy you as well, if you've had the problems? A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step - Virgin Records Nickelback - The Long Road - Roadrunner Records
Jet - Get Born. No problems and i ripped it and shared it with friends too Do you mean the thing on the side bit on the front cover that says "Thank you for buying this music and supporting the artists, songwriters, musicians and others who've created it and made it possible"
"Wind Up Records" (IMO, the best label) is planning to switch all their bands to these CDs. As part of the Alter Bridge street team, I get free stuff. They're sending me a sampler with a bunch of their bands music, and it's one of those CDs. I figure if all of us street teamers bitch about them, they'll not switch to them.
While not copy controlled...some of the newest CD's I just got like Papa Roach - "Getting Away With Murder", Eighteen Visions - "Obsession", and Korn - "Greatest Hits Vol. 1" have a FBI Anti-Piracy thing on the back of the case and on the CD! Maybe it is copy controlled, I dunno, but the only cool part about it is that it can show me the name of the song on my CD player!
I don't know if it's the same protection I'm thinking of, but if it is, holding shift while the CD reads cancels the autorun of the cd's copy proof program. Then just rip it with something. The problem with these protections they try is that they dont' work on some CD players, which is a big problem.
Beastie Boys- To the 5 Bouroughs- Capital Stabilo- Cupid?- Virgin The Tea Party- Seven Circles- EMI Personally I havn't had any playback problems with these cds, I've even been able to rip em to my computer using windows media player. Hey Mark what kind of cd player does your van have and how old is it? Is it the factory deck or a different one?
