I, in all honestly think whoever thought that up is a moron. Sure, there's a remote chance that I'll turn into a horse, but who the hell, in all history has spontaneously turned into something else? Well except turned into dead. But that's not the same. And for the record, the cat is alive until it dies. It's not dead and alive at the same time, it's simply alive until the cyanade kills it. Some people make things so complacated.
That's not logically sound. It defies Aristotles Law of Identity. Whether dead or alive, the cat is still a cat. It has all the properties of a cat. It can only accurately be called a cat, the name our language has assigned it to match it's individual attributes and characteristics that other cats possess. A cat is nothing else except a cat. A is equal to A and only A, not B, or C, ect. Given that, a man is a man, and a horse is a horse. They have the identities specific to their designated name, that only apply to their kind. Identity does not change. Life will inevitably become dead. But man will not inevitably become horse. This is fallicious.
But again, you have to consider that rules sooner or later can be broken. Despite the fact that physics cleary states that electrons don't have enough power to escape the pull of a nucleus, it happens. As long as the cat is in the box, it is dead and alive. You can't tell whether or not the cat is alive or not, so how can you say what it is? Since as you perceive it, the cat can be both, it is. One person may say it is alive, one may say it is dead, and they are both right until you actually see. There is a chance that you will turn into a horse, it is scientifically proven that this chance exists. Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it's not possible.
.... ...owwww....i didnt need to read that. especially before going to bed. someone has way too much time on their hands to come up with that. yet i cant help but feel intrigued by this matter. it is deffinetly thought provoking, the whole concept of living in ones own 'universe", yet still being a part in someone elses "universe." when one is alone, you are essentially cut off from the world, because (according to what they are trying to say here) no one is there to know the difference. no one to observe the fact that you are indeed still alive, or dead. or niether (in this case you could become a horse).
wow... a horse... someone got lots of time on their hands! this is a very very small possibleiy, but hey i wouldnt wanna be a house/human very interesting
what a load of useless bull!!! the gy probably got bored and came up with this crock of shite ... (not you Nate but the guy who came up with this) ...
But this author is horribly flawed. The relation between life and death vs. man and horse are QUITE different. Like I said, what is living will inevitably die. Man will not inevitably, or even by chance, turn into a horse. They are two different entities on their own, where life and not life are CHARACTERISTICS, not entities, that apply to all matter.
I was wondering about this... the law of identity is of course based on a fair amount of assumptions. How do you know that what you see as a cat is really a cat? How do you know what you see is real? What you feel, what you hear and recognize? It's all electric impulses, who knows?

Your senses and your reasoning are your means of survival, and your specific tool in analyzing and evaluating the world around you. It may not be 100% objective, but it's all we have to work with, we certainly can't renounce it. A cat is a cat because it's the name we've assigned a species of animal that have certain specifically shared characteristics that make it a cat. It cannot be anything else but a cat.
Hmm the beauty of quantum physics. On the same note, nothing's keeping you from spontaneously turning into a chair if your quantum filaments suddenly decide to form a different superstructure, since the chair is made out of the exact same quantum stuff as you are. On the same note, your chair could suddenly display signs of conciousness, and tell you to stop sitting on it. Or crush your balls if you do.
But nothing happens "just because", there's a cause behind every action. Why would quantum filaments do that?
