A lot of the Beatles songs will help you with chord changing and will help you with your own songwriting

Get some variety. If you're learning some theory (highly recommended, it will help you a ton) try some blues songs and maybe even a few jazz songs as well as rock songs. It will make you more versatile of a player.

Do you know how to read chord diagrams? Hmm, let's see, Everlong by the Foo Fighters isn't hard at all, just some add9 chords in the beginning and then a bunch of power chords for the chorus, AND it's one of my favorites.

I can give you the chords if you're interested.

I would start out by doing Green Day's Warning to get used to playing gutair, then move on to something by the Beatles or Guns 'n Roses to learn chord changing, then if you want to use out of tune sounds or if you want to learn how to use distortion pedal, then I suggest using Korns Dirty.

On a side note, what gutiar do you use?

    Green Day:
Welcome to Paradise (Maybe not the bridge, though)
    Basket Case
Jesus of Suburbia (Just the one part of the suite)
    Hitchin' A Ride
    Waiting

And I'm sure it's not the obession talking. I've been playing guitar for about a year now and I learned with songs like these, as I haven't had any lessons yet.

Edit: If you're reading tabs, you can find a shit load of stuff at Taborama.

No, chord diagrams, they're different. Tablatures are largely unreliable, and chord diagrams are actually easier to read. It's almost like a tab turned sideways....almost...

    Heart of gold- Neil Young
    Back in black- ACDC
    Boulevard of Broken Dreams(beginning)- Greenday
    Time of your life- Greenday
    and a whole bunch more..
(I'm still a beginner but these are the songs I learned with)

Actually...I've been playing a while and I still can't get the first half/outro right. The easy part is just strumming the chords through the middle of the song.
