Bloc Party is an autonomous unit of un-extraordinary kids reared on pop culture between the years of 1976 and the present day. Like many such kids, between them they eventually concluded that their own attempts to imitate what had informed them could be construed as a worthy variation on the many forms that preceded. They do everything that's required to conform to the currently received ideas of what a band is: ostensibly to play instruments at the same time, but also have a title for the work created. Bloc Party have just release their first major album, entitled 'silent alarm' on febuary 14th, i think its fresh and i havent heard anything like this before. they have a new feel to them - but some how bringing together many types of music from many different decades. this electric-rock-pop band are going to be big this year. their first single is called 'so here we are' and is a ace track, number 10 on the cd. i have been fortunate enough to see Bloc Party live and they seem a class act. Kele Okereke - Guitar and Vocals Gordan Moakes - Bass Russel Lissack - Guitar Matt Tong - Drums if you guys are interested i would imagine some of their songs are floating around on the internet, my favourites at the min are 'helicopter' 'like eating glass' and finally 'the pioneers.' be sure to check out blockparty.com for some offical downloads from their own site
Jamie introduced me to BlocParty once, and I love them. It's all so new and different then many other bands, so fresh indeed. 'Little thoughts' cracks me up everywhere, anytime. Also, 'Banquet' is awesome too.
