This is absolutely disgusting. I didn't hear about this til now, since I don't live where this happened. But it's still pretty screwed up, so I'm posting it. Petition Link... Here's what it says. How the hell can people go and make a song about the tsunami and put people down like this? So many people are dead, missing, who knows what, and they go make a parody. What the hell? I'm so pissed at how some people can be harsh about this catastrophe. This event will be in history books and will be in the news til the time I'm dead, for sure. And yet there are those insensitive enough to make a cheap song telling those affected to "cry to their mommies?" The link that I posted above is a petition asking for those who participated in the making of the song, the cast and crew of "Miss Jones in the Morning," to be fired for their immoral and derogatory behavior. They deserve worse than that, but this is a start. Here is the official apology from HOT 97: Official Response to the 'Tsunami Song' by rapper Jin I'm glad there are some people who know what's wrong and right in the world. Please, spread the link to the petition and the news of this ridiculous behavior by those in the media as far out as you can, the discrimination needs to stop and those who thought it right to poke fun at such a tragedy deserve to be fired and much worse. Sign the petition, every signature counts. Thank you. To hear the hateful song, click here.
Kinda reminds me of all the 9/11 "Air Force Come And They Flatten Your HOme" songs about Osama and everything.
There is something to be said for spoofs. For compassion to be possible, people must be able to relativate(?) traumatic events... I've ordered a t-shirt that says "I surfed the Tsunami 2004" (see here), but that doesn't mean that I don't think it's horrible wat happened, nor that I don't grieve for the people who have died, and those who's relatives have died. It means that I'm able to relativate the event, that I can say "Damn, if there's a god, he's pretty pissed about something " and that I fully realize that disasters like this have happened in the past and will still happen in the future. Grieve for those who need grieving, be happy for those who are still living and growing strong yet again, and make sure you're ready for the next disaster. If you want to help, help. If you want to grieve, grieve. If you're one of the persons who deal with those kind of things by writing immature lyrics, then do so. But do not keep hanging in the past. The people who have been hit by the tsunami won't (for else they would *never* be able to pick up their lives again), and so shouldnt anybody else. Though the lyrics of this one are clearly more immature then usual ("I just saw your mommie floating by"), I don't feel hurt by it. The only thing they accomplisch with that kind of lyrics is to let people see just how little maturity the writers have, but that's about it So although I don't like people who make hurtful comments and *mean* them, I think the people who are signing this petition are severly overreacting. Don't you have anything better to do with your time? If you *really* grieve that much for the people who've been through the Tsunami disaster, then help them, don't critizice the way others deal with it. And especially! don't give people who try to get attention by this sort of thing the attention they want.
Thats not right ... absolutely not funny at all i signed the petition a few hours ago ..before ya posted this
I hate that song, I don't understand how people think it's funny...heartless. WTF? "Swim B*tches swim"!
Haha, I want that shirt.
I'm making one that says " I Survived Tsunami 2004" and wearing it to school. But I don't think it was right for the radio station to play the song on the air. That is wrong...
the song is wrong and it´s stupid they played it on the radio. okay, some people can handle their emotions and they get over it fast but there are ALOT of people who are not over their trauma´s! I think it is just plain stupid to make such a song and bring it in public. Aren´t those people hurt enough?
Think. As if such a song would hurt them? They'd be hurt because of the familymembers they've lost etc, not some stupid song on the internet.
what if you lost all your loved ones? imagine. Do you think such a song would do nothing to your feelings? I´d be hurt more. People need understanding too, not sarcasm and gloating.
Ofcourse it would do nothing. Just imagine that you've lost all your loved ones. Would this song hurt you much more then? No. Because *if* you've lost all your loved ones, then the hurt would still be so fresh, so burning, so unbelievable that it's extremely hard to fathom, and something silly like this wouldn't impact that one little bit, simply becáuse you cannot hurt any more then you already are. On the other hand, in a few years from now, where you've dealt with half of your hurt, and tucked the rest away because it was too much to deal with, then something like this would indeed hurt, ofcourse. But every sane person would realize that this is just silly and childish. If you lost a familymember, for example a sister. And some little guy on the street walked up to you and started saying "Your sister is dead, nanana". Would that do anything to you? Maybe, because the hurt you have is still fathomable. But, i certainly hope that you'd also realize that they are just childish words, and that the person saying them doesn't realize what impact they *could* have, so they won't have that impact then.

Don't you think they would get even more hurt if they knew some idiots were making fun of them while their families are dying, kicking them while they're down? I'm sorry but your post was just thoughtless, many people would be offended.

I'm sorry but your post was just thoughtless, many people would be offended.
If someone was kicking them while they were down, yes. But this is just a silly, VERY childish spoof, and I think people overreact. Because you KNOW (you can tell by the lyrics), that the one who wrote it doesn't know shit about losing loved ones.. So then it suddenly becomes much less meaningfull, they're just lyrics intended to shock and to get attention, don't let 'em.

You're right about that... But won't they always? If not for such a childish song like this, they'd get hurt by video footage or images in the media.. they'd get hurt when people even just only *talk* about the event.. Because if you've lost loved ones, anything that has a connection with the events that leaded to that outcome hurts, so there's not much anyone can do about that.
That's just really really stupid. And I disagree with you Elco, hearing someone is calling your loved lost one a bitch (swim bitches swim) DOES hurt. Messing with dead people is never good imo. Even with that childish song.
I wonder if theres a "9/11 Song" to go with the tsunami song..I bet people would start caring then.. See, if the tsunami happend in America i dont think they'd make a stupid song about it..
