I noticed you guys don't like people to offer MP3's. Can i ask about Bootleg recordings which bands usually let you trade, etc. (Even Lars has no problem with it ) btw. Bootleg recordings are recorded by someone in the crows with a tape recorder or something.
I think LPA should allow bootleg discussion. Not trading, since I've never heard of a LP bootleg, but whatever. Anyways, I visit a forum bigger than LPA (25766 members) that is owned/hosted/admined by the webmaster of the official Mars Volta site, and they have an extensive bootleg section. They haven't gotten in trouble for it, and it's been open for awhile. But I guess that's because the band is fine with it. I don't see why we couldn't atleast discuss it, since it's common stuff. Incubus & Pearl Jam sell their bootlegs, although that's not really bootlegs, and Metallica have their own P2P bootleg program. I think it should be allowed, but I'm not an admin.
They're illegal recordings of concerts that the bands have to pay for from revenue brought in by fans would had to pay to see the band perform. There are many many places to find bootlegs (Kazaa, mIRC, BitTorrent, other p2p programs), you do not need these forums to do so. Please respect our decision.
Not nessecarily...some bands allow people (regular, everyday people) to tape their shows. I.E. My Chemical Romance.
Yes, but these are Linkin Park forums, and Linkin Park does not support that. As for other bands, having to decipher whether one band allows bootlegs and another one doesn't is too much of a hassle and legal risk.
LPA is hosted in USA, and our laws on MP3s and file-sharing are getting stricter by the minute. We don't allow for trading or discussion because it could potentially get us in trouble. I understand other places may allow it, but they may not be stationed in an area of strict file sharing laws or may not care for these laws at all. We do. Again, I'm sorry if this disappoints you, but we can only allow for music that we place on our site. I hope this will not affect your stay on the forums
Well, to put in my 2 cents, I've never once seen a site shut down or sued over mp3s besides Napster, etc., and those were because of having albums up for free, which takes away from revenue from record sales. Granted, the record companies make mor emoney off of record sales than the bands do, and the labels have more legal power than the bands themselves, which is why you get lawsuits over illegal piracy of albums and the like. Bands make the majority of their money from concerts and touring. Recording a concert doesn't take away revenue from the show, I've never heard of an arena only being half full because someone had a recording device. It's more of a means for people who didn't get to go to the show to be able to still hear it. LP did this with Rock Am Ring, the concert was webcast live and repeatedly shown on TV, which to me is the same as someone recording it for other people to hear. I've never seen fansites shut down for bootlegs, only for hosting official album tracks. Hell, if you wanna get technical, some sites are even more cautious, they don't even post lyrics because that's "illegal." Law is a word of mouth thing a lot, notice how you always HEAR about how so-and-so got slammed for mp3s and stuff but you never get the full details. Yes, the mp3 laws are getting more and more strict. But until the RIAA comes knocking on my door for my 2000+ songs on my computer and 50+ copied CDs, I'll continue to believe that the RIAA is only going after either: 1) People who share huge amounts of mp3s on Kazaa, etc. 2) People who pirate albums. I don't blame LPA for wanting to stay safe, but like, closing a thread asking what CDs you've burned lately, and not even allowing talk of mp3s, like honestly who gets arrested for talking about mp3s? And asking where to get them, they can't hold you legally responsible for that, they could possibly go after the person who gave them the mp3s/the site that they were directed to to find them, but thinking they could go after you for it being on yoru forums is like thinking the government can arrest a store owner for selling boxcutters to one of the 9/11 hijackers. K, I'm done. Stay as safe as you want, I don't blame you, the RIAA could throw you a curve and switch it up at anytime. But as of right now you're doing far more than you need to to stay safe. If you wanna stay safe, don't host album tracks, don't host any copywrighted material without permission, and uh...always wear a condom. Err... Yeah, peace.
There's like one for every show. :chemist: I don't mean to be an ass or anything, but at a meet and greet, one of the very popular underground traders asked Mike and Chester what they thought of the bootlegs, and they said that it was pretty cool that people were dedicating all the time to it, and it was ok as long as people didn't sell it for personal profit.
Meh whatever, I'm sure I could find some if I really wanted them, but truth be told their music doesn't hold my intrest anymore, thus why I don't want any of the bootlegs.
I have a few LP bootlegs among many. e.g LP @ Colorado Springs. Just to prove their are LP bootlegs out there.
Losers. I only have 2 bootleg concerts, those being Mars Volta concerts. And that Rock AM Ring 2004 concert. And a Pink Floyd set in England that was so loud it killed fish in a pond near by. Okay I'm a loser too. :'(
