Got this from another board... Soundscan, November 2003, best selling artist of the decade: (rank, million units, name) 1. 65 Garth Brooks 2. 46 The Beatles 3. 46 Celine Dion 4. 44 Metallica 5. 42 Mariah Carey 6. 39 George Strait 7. 33 Kenny G 8. 32 The Backstreet Boys 9. 32 Pink Floyd 10. 31 Shania Twain 11. 30 N'Sync 12. 30 Alan Jackson 13. 29 Pearl Jam 14. 29 U2 15. 28 Aerosmith 16. 28 Tim McGraw 17. 27 Eric Clapton 18. 26 Reba McEntire 19. 25 Dave Matthews Band 20. 24 Britney Spears 01.) How did Back Street Boys beat Pink Floyd 02.) How did N'Sync beat Aerosmith 03.) Why is Garth Brooks number 1.
4. 44 Metallica 9. 32 Pink Floyd 13. 29 Pearl Jam are the only bands i like out of them. :wth: Oh and didn't the Backstreet Boys two albums both go diamond so that would have given them at least 20 million.
1) Because this is only a chart from the last decade (er, as of '03). Decade = 10 years. Backstreet Boys: Extremely popular in the 90s, also a time when people were buying lots of CDs (at least, if you listen to the RIAA). Pink Floyd = definitely not at their popularity peak in the 90s. 2) Same as above, really. Most Aerosmith fans seem to think the band started sucking, or at least getting worse later in their career. 3) People really like Garth Brooks, I guess.
01.) Popularity reigns supreme in the Mainstreamed Music Industry. Basically what Lyndie said. 02.) N'Sync spawned Justin Timberlake & the song Gone. Fuck you, they're awesome. DIE. 03.) At one point I believe Garth Brooks was more popular than Elvis. I think he got attendence at a few of his concerts that broke records or something. Besides, Chris Gaines was a badass concept.
Believe it or not, Country Music is the most popular music out there. I didn't believe it at first either.
