I respect the idea behind the mask's. From what I know, it's so people won't worry about who they are and just like them for their music. The fact that they are doing it as a way of showing everyone there is equal and your looks do not matter. I like that. Although, I don't like what the masks look like at all.

Besides that, I like Slipknot's music.

what i meant by image was like if they chose to wear make up, (i.e mudvayne, after the decided to stop wearing all the makeup a lot of people tweaked) also if they had like piercings or whatnot.

their newer stuff is a lot better-the lyrics have a lot more feeling rather than just swearing for the sake of it

i wouldnt buy an album of theirs but their stuff is ok to listen to every now and then.

What's wrong with masks? At least they are being sort of individual. And 9 people makes their music sound amazing. Their songs are so complex. Moo. [/b][/quote]
Their songs are not complex. If you play percussion, provided you can play the bass as quickly as you should, all you have to do is do that and basicaly hit random toms or the snare.

Aside from that, they have some guy in the back who supposedly puts in random sound effects. Personally, I think he just bobs his head up and down and up and down.

They don't need the two "drummers" on the left and right. The clown and nose guy.

And with lyrics like "I want to slit your throat, and fuck the wound", make no wonder I think they are horrible.

Some of what you said is right and some is total bull. Yea, they dont need both shawn and chris doing custom percussion all the time, and they dont play all the time at gigs. But you obviously havent seen or heard Joey Jordinsons drumming if you think he simply randomly hits drums. And fair enough if you don't like their music or their lyrics, i must admit those are probably the worst ones they have written but I'm really peed off about what you said about their drumming. Joey = best drummer ever. And for your information, I've played drums for years.
You obviously dont have much musical appreciation. I admit, the first time i listneed to them, I didnt see how everything fitted together but I still liked it and as i kept listening you see that it really is very complex.

    Agrees with Aaron

and about the masks, personally I hate them, I don´t see the point in wearing those goddamn ugly masks. is it because they want attention, is it for their fans to identify with? .. In some way those masks are so childish. if anyone knows why they wear them, tell me, cos i don´t have a fucking idea.

I agree. It is annoying. Not the fact that people don't like them.. I don't care about that. It's that most people who don't like them on this thread are voicing their opinions in a pretty tasteless way.

Anywho. I don't really care for old Slipknot. They had potential but the lyrics were pretty bad and it seemed like they didn't have that great of a mixer. Vol 3 is great in my opinion. Joey Jordison is one of the best drummers alive today. I'm a drummer and if you say he sucks... you just don't know anything about drums. He plays fast but that's not the extent of his skill. I don't see the point of have two extra percussionists but when it comes together it sounds great. It eleminates the need for a ton of extra sampling gear for live shows. Corey Taylor has a great vocal range and we all knew it had more potential (from hearing Stone Sour). The masks don't bother me. They wanted to protect their identity. There's some crazy fans but also some crazier Slipknot haters that might harm them for some of the stuff they say. They should continue to work with Rubin because he refined them into a tight, music based band. Not just random samples and badly mixed songs anymore.

i definetly agree that they should work with rick rubin again. vol 3 showcases all the bands strengths and little weaknesses.. it took their potential and put it to use.. the first 2 albums (slipknot & iowa) were similar and showed little change to me besides some creation with their sound.. vol 3, to me, was a great change for the group and shows that the band is heading in a good direction..
about shawn and the other guy not playing much in some of their songs.. if youve noticed.. the same thing can be said about mr hahn live too.. so who cares who does what.. they still can put on a kick ass show..

I hate when people say that.

Or when people say, "You can't call yourself a metalhead if you don't listen to <insert band>."

ya this is true. it happens to me a lot. the whole <insert band> thing

but the musical appreciation is in general. because some ppl just hear the screaming. and the word fu*k and "oh thats a gay band they suck. and their music isnt even on the same beat, thats just noise, and they have 9 ppl whats the point of that?" i have heard that soo many times, but its true sometimes, because to actually appreciate ANY music you need to listen to it a few times over and just take in all the different things put into it. but some ppl are saying that cuz they truly dont like it. and there is nothing wrong with that.

Yah i think Slipknot is decent but i still cant get over the fact that they are 10 guys in masks. Seems kinda childish to me.

There are 9 guys. Why is it childish.. :S I don't go out and buy say classical music but I think it is good and I appreciate it. Fair enough if you don't think Slipknot is complex and that the band members aren't talented, or whoever said that, but I would say you have no the musical appreciation. I've studeed music all my life and I think I know what music is talented and what isn't, but it doesn't mean I like that music. You just can't say a band like Slipknot has no talent and put them on the same level as bands like Girls Aloud. There is absaloutly no talent there. And the comment from Will about the insert band thing, I would never say that.. I listen to some pop music myself.. And I don't like some metal bands.. I'm not biast when it comes to music.

    OK :p Rant Over.

I play drums too. And I have seen Joey's solo, and trying to impress us by randomly smashing various aprts of your kit while doing a 360 on a 90 degree angle isn't going to make me any more impressed.

Best drummer ever = Josh Freese.
