Shadow

This song is inspired by a short poem a certain someone that I know wrote. Most of this song isn't based on anything; I simply wrote lyrics that kind of tied in with what she had written. This song is heavily influenced by Linkin Park and Funeral for a Friend, as well. The verses and bridge are rapped and the chorus is sung, all Linkin Park-style.

I can tell by the way she talks

She’s got the world in her back pocket
And she’s not afraid to flaunt it
Shapely as she moves in the bright sunlight
Making sure she’s in everyone’s sights
But behind the façade she hides her past
A past that she wishes she didn’t have
She loves the compliments and takes them in
But doesn’t know just how to begin
She wants to tell her story to all around
So that maybe then she’d be found
Her eyes shine when they’re not filled with tears
From hiding the bruises through all these years
She just wants to be loved, wants to be held
Just wants to show the world how she’s felt
And when she disappears out of our sights
That little light doesn’t shine so bright
She hides in the shadows, waits for the sun
Waits for the person she can call the one

The pain that I keep is nothing compared
To the things she’s been through, the things she’s shared
And I can hardly take the way that she looks
Hiding inside every cranny and nook
The shadows can only conceal her for so long
Until the sun creeps in and it’s all gone
I remember when she was real quiet
No one ever thought that she’d be a riot
Now she’s more open to the world around
But she still doesn’t trust enough to make a sound
About the torment she suffered, the lies she’s lived
Ever since she was taken from her crib
When she looks back on these memories
Her shadow’s the only thing she can see
The only shoulder she could depend on
When she needed a person she could cry on
Guiding her in the right direction
Protecting her from all her misconceptions
But now she’s reaching out for a chance to start again
And I’ll be there right with her ‘til the end

And it seems like it’s the very worst for this girl
She cries alone at night when there’s no one around
Cries out to the stars and the trees in the ground
Her tourniquet is wrapped too tight
Preventing her from seeing her light
With this pen I hope to reach out to her
Prove to her that I can give her the world
