cheers to poems that just sort of form after you get one lyrical idea...

    thanks, rain /// me

    the rain pours down,
come to drown away my sadness.
tears and rain roughly caress my face.
a memory forms in a tear,
    and dribbles to my lips.
    guilty, i swallow,
and it floods back full force,
back to a time when i couldn't believe
that tomorrow would be a new day.
    the rain continues to come,
a veil that fools all onlookers
to believe that i'm not crying.

so i pound on the glass,
    trying desperately one last time
to get you to notice me.
    the glass splinters,
and every piece slits my hand.
so i pound on the walls,
    leaving my mark,
so that you'll remember this day
    as my very last stand.

    the rain continues to pour,
    i'm walking on this road
that's as bleak and dark as my mind.
    shadows call my name,
and as i turn to answer,
    they fade into broken memories.
suddenly, i find a hand in mine,
    to assure me this road
    isn't as bleak and dark
as i might believe it to be.
the hand's owner turns to face me,
and i can see with the light in their eyes.
the rain stops within that instant,
and air fills my breathless lungs.
    the light in your eyes
    gives me a love
that i never felt would exist.

so i pound on the glass,
    trying desperately one last time
to get you to notice me.
    the glass splinters,
and every piece slits my hand.
so i pound on the walls,
    leaving my mark,
so that you'll remember this day
    as my very last stand.

even though this world is dark,
hope never to be restored to some,
and roads that appear to never end
with dreariness the darkest shade of bleak,
there is a hand clasped in mine.
    and there are eyes
that hold a light for me,
    and within that light,
    is you smiling,
    and whispering the words
    that i need to breathe.
your words are the ones that i need.

so i pound on the glass,
    trying desperately one last time
to get you to notice me.
    the glass splinters,
and every piece slits my hand.
so i pound on the walls,
    leaving my mark,
so that you'll remember this day
    as my very last stand.
    and my very last stand
    was hand in hand
    with my reassurance:
    my dearest, purest love.
