    i'm a chinese. meh. :p

as for the amount of stress in school, i find it pretty much manageable. maybe its because that i'm studying in a polytechnic where the enviroment is less stressful than a college.

but sometimes the peer pressure and the desire to get good grades is enough to drive me up the ceiling. for example, my social psychology essay takes up to 15% of my final grade, which is ALOT. but other than that...its okay.

i got a feeling that many of you guys dont understand what i'm talking about. but whatever.

At the moment (I'm not in high school yet, almost though) I think even some middle school work is a little large. One of my teachers expects us to get three projects done in under one month, which is a little much to ask for of some 13-14 year olds, especially when some are trying to partake in sports and such. I'm thinking about taking AP classes when I get to high school as I'm in advanced right now, instead of taking the higher level classes where you must get excellent grades in order to pass, plus they expect you to be in sports with up to 3 or 4 hours of homework :wth:

But I really think it all depends on what school you go to.

I agree with what you're saying 100%. I myself am getting overly stressed with all this school work and all the homework. My grades are slipping and i just can't keep on top of it all at times. My school sucks as my headmaster has pretty much banned fun, it's all work work work so that's all we ever do. Mind numbingly boring work with no fun. And all the time teachers rattle on about the importance of exams is enough to send you into a mental breakdown. I really think they need to lay off us. So many of my relatives have told me that 'They never had this much pressure on them and work set for them when they were in school'

And that thing about 2 hours homework every night. That is such complete BS. I really would like to see them do two hours of homework every night and still have a life. I have better things to do with my time than work work work.

If ya think about it, homework is pointless. As long as ya do well in class, and then revise for ya exams then ya should be alright. Homework in my opinion is just a waste of time, and personally i only do it if i know the teacher will go mental at me if i dont :p

Just like how we're gonna forget more than half of what we learn anyways. Only point of studying most of the stuff are for tests. And after the tests everyone just jams it out of their brain to make room for more useless stuff.

If you aren't looking to be Ken Jennings when you grow up, there's totally no point to high school. Get the basics in elementary, skip to college, get a job.

Education is important...It's just that high schools are all filled with kids who either don't care about it or are too bored with what they are learning. Maybe if we started learning important things in high school and then let us learn the extraneous stuff in college, more kids would try!

School is stressing and hard to deal with most of the time. Especially when you work your ass off to try and get into a good college and get a good job so you can provide for a family these days. It costs so much money just to have a DECENT life.

Well yes that would be true if we all wanted to be mindless business majors. But some of us don't want that. Highschool is extremely important college preporatory work (or should be). How do you think people are supposed to survive in rigorous engineering programs without highschool math? How are you supposed to impress employers with your speach and writing skills without going through highschool english? How are you supposed to have any clue about what our country, and others, are built on without the history?

    Seriously, think about you're saying.

Perhaps you would enjoy an ignorant life. I would not.

I'm not anti-education at all, all I'm saying is that more than half the stuff they cram into our brains are useless since we're gonna forget it anyways. The whole system's based on testing, once the tests are over no one bothers to remember what order the Frederick the Greats in Prussia came in.

Maybe its different for different schools, but at my school I know they go into way too much detail. It's all based on grades and tests, not real learning.

it's not school and exams that actually push us to the edge evry time...it tends to be ourselves. actually everything that we do, comes down to our responsibility. yes the burden of studies was very little compared to the fifties, sixties and seventies....but they never knew how to play x box and ps2 either...so yeh, there is a benefit too. in those days, they weren't any sweet ferrari F50's to admire. basically, it's man in general who has been pushing himself and every individual would want to keep up. so we are the ones who actually expect a lot from ourselves....sometimes, it's not us to blame but the environment of competition....so really....only solution tends to be to follow a regular and efficient time pattern and really practice it good.

    w00t! i'm philosophical..............

my highschool was a breeze. i didnt have to try at all. i mean i should have tried a lil harder to pass my AP tests, but i had no real problem w/ grades.

i know some days i wouldnt even do any hw.

i guess my problem is that i was too cockey and thought that i knew everything already and felt that i didnt need to work as hard as i should have.

but still my school was soooooooooooooo dumn. i only took one regular class (american gov't) and i was bored to tears almost everyday. we didnt learn anything at all. America's school systems suck sooooooooo bad!

im so happy im in the University now.

and yes you do have to work a lot harder in the University enviornment. w/e anyone says.
