Something about the stolen lyrics accusation seems fishy. When he came onstage, he yelled that Dimebag broke up Pantera and shot him. At least his mother realizes what happened, and isn't becoming a pity case who's all distraught about her son's death.
Well, what kind of news source is MTV? If CNN or any other reliable news source confirms it, I'll believe it. Otherwise, it might be true, it might not.
The mother already admitted she bought the gun for him as a present for his being in the marines. It was something he wanted, and she thought it was a just reward for doing well -- I don't see anything wrong with that. I think it's very understanding. The mother seems like an alright gal. Unfortunately, her son had mental problems that caused the lives of others to be lost... but you can't blame her for her son's mental disorders (because it's pretty clear he developed them while he was in the marines).
Yeah... it's America, people are allowed to have guns. Mothers probably buy their kids guns all the time.
Not really, no... they can, but I don't know any mother that would. You've got to remember, it's not like this was just some little boy who killed Dimebag. This guy was a marine with mental instability problems. But, for a present for getting in the marines, his mom got him a gun. I don't find it that odd, since he was a marine. He's gone through all the proper training, and at the time it was given to him he had no mental problems.

Under any normal circumstances, a mother wouldn't give their son a gun. But you know, since he's in the Marines, which is a branch of the military, and *shockhorror* they use weapons, why not get him a gun? You'll probably argue that the Marines provide him with a firearm, but it was a gift from a mother who wasn't going to see her son for atleast 4 years probably. I don't see the big deal in that. It's not like she could predict the future and see that'd he be medically discharged in two years and go on to murder someone with that gun. The fact of the matter is, she didn't know he had a mental problem. He was discharged from the military since they ran tests, and found out that he was a schizophrenic, if i recall correctly. She didn't know her son had a problem is the bottom line. It's not her fault. All the fault rests on Nathan Gale. You can argue it's half her fault since she gave him the gun, but in the end, it's his fault, mental problem or not.
You just said basically that no mother in her right mind would give their son a gun, but then went on to say that his mother giving him the gun was a good idea. [/b][/quote] I did no such thing. I said I don't know any mother that would. Because I'm just being honest with you: I don't know any mother that would buy her son a gun. You made it sound like it was commonplace just based off of your assumption, which it absolutely is not. And, like I said, it's not like this was some little boy who asked his mommy for a gun. This was a full grown man who was given a gun for Christmas by his mother. This man was also in the marines, so it's not like he didn't know how to operate the gun in a proper fashion. Well said.
The fact that you don't know someone's mental stability, and probably never will is reason enough for me to advocate stronger gun control. It's ridiculous that we consider ourselves as a race to be mature enough to handle something as deadly as a weapon and treat it so lightly.
