This goes out to Casey if he doesn't know The Mars Volta will soon be filming a video for their track "The Widow". The treatment for the clip was written by band guitarist Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez, who will also direct. In related news, they have also lined up the following Japanese dates: February 05th Osaka, JPN - Sonic Mania February 06th Tokyo, JPN - Sonic Mania The bands new album "Frances The Mute" is expected out through Strummer/Universal in March.
I read about this on The PRP last night. The Widow is the only logical choice for a single, since the other 4 songs last well over 10 minutes. The next single will probably be a cut-down version of Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore. Anywho, I can't wait to see this video. I think the video will follow a woman, or "widow", since the basic theme of the whole album is women in pain. If you just read the lyrics to the song, it basically tells you the outline of the video, in my mind atleast. I suspect Frances The Mute (the CD, not the 77 minute song that's being released as an EP) will be record of 2005, and The Widow will rank up their with Televators for their best song, in the eyes of the mainstream atleast.
Great news Twitch! And yeah, Casey isn't the ONLY one to like the Mars Volta, nor is he the first in this board to get into them I REALLY hope the Widow gets some airplay on radio and on TV with their video. I just want TMV to get the credit they deserve, because from what I heard Frances the Mute sounds like a masterpiece. They got a bit of success with Televators (for a prog band I think it was quite good!), and Universal has been great at letting them do their own thing right now. What I hope doesn't happen is that the song gets popular and Universal might pressure them to be more commercial. I just hope that doesn't happen @ Casey: Have you heard Frances the Mute yet?
Yup. Downloaded the whole thing, but it's not that great of quality. As of right now, it's my pick of album of 2005, unless something else comes out in 2005 that blows me away. L'Via L'Viaquez is my favorite track, by far. Unless you're talking about 'The Mars Volta' 12" EP that comes out the day Frances The Mute does, which oddly enough, has a song called Frances The Mute on it (FTM is the only song on the EP), but isn't on the LP. If you're talking about that, then no, I haven't.
LOL @ Omar, you should check them out, he's an awesome geetarist @ Casey: Saw it on a torrent site......and I am resisting for now but most people say it is better than De-Loused and I am excited about the jam oriented songs. I am waiting for CD-quality versions so I don't ruin my first impression of the album And the EP is a 10-15 minute song (apparently) that will serve as a decoder for the album! Are they not releasing it on CD format I wonder??
Apparently it's only Vinyl. I might just have to buy that and a cheap record player now. As for downloading it, I say do it. It's nothing compared to what we're getting when it's officially released, since it's bound to be crystal clear and whatnot. But if you don't want to, I still suggest you get L'Via L'Viaquez somehow. It's just that damn good, IMO. As for it being better than De-Loused... I don't think you can compare the two, personally. They're so different in alot of ways.
