I still don't get what emotion there is in emo songs. I've heard more emotion in Britney Spears and I hate her
What I think 'emo' is.... To me 'emo' is basically lyrics that are emotional in one sense, but sung with such feeling that it brings them both together to become emotional (if that made sense). But then again FFAF are metal influenced and they have scream parts, which gives them the label of 'screamo'. But either way...'emo' is basically emotional lyrics sung very emotional...With maybe really melodic music behind it.
Emo is very hard to define... It's to do with the way that lyrics are sung and put together... I mean, some people might say New Found Glory, along with some other punk or pop-punk bands, are emo but they aren't they're, well, strangely enough... POP-PUNK BANDS! FFAF are emo, so are Dashboard confessional... technically, any band could be emo but, due to the way the music is put across, they aren't... And, as Dean said, some people think that bands like the Deftones are emo because of the lyrics but I think that it's more in the way of how the lyrics are put across to the audience.
Aren't bands like Atreyu and Slipknot emo? Because if they are then that's what I mean by it having no emotion.
LMFAO. Atreyu, no emotion? AHHAHAHAAHA. [/b][/quote] Slipknot, emo. Never use those two words in the same sentence. It just doesn't work
I sort of agree with you. Emo to me is the sound and lyrics of the song. Isn't Dashboard Confessional emo? My favorite Emo band is Finch. ...Finch is emo right?
I would of said Emo/Emocore but I could be wrong since I pretty shite at labelling what styles bands fall into. My favourite emo band would also have to be 'Finch' though
If anyone wants a perfect description of "emo" then listen to "Signing Emo" by the wonderful MC Lars.
Personally I don't think any band can really be "emo" in music. I think it's more a style of writing lyrics. The kind of gripping, emotional lyrics. Not to say other lyrics aren't. It's like watching Not Another Teen Movie then watching LOTR or the Green Mile. LOTR and the Green Mile would be "emo". There's a lot more put into "emo" lyrics in my opinion. Like Dashboard Confessional's "Vindicated" is a lot more heartfelt and "poetic" to me than Breaking the Habit. Emo is also a city label. Like Seattle was the birth of "Grunge", "Emo" is the label first used on D.C. bands like Minor Threat. They call my town Emoha, Nebraska since the bands The Faint and Cursive reside at our Saddle Creek Records. I don't like a lot of stereotypical emo bands (like Dashboard) because their lyrics get a little whiny and overly dramatic. Any band can make an "emo" song. It's almost like writing like Shakespeare. It's just the way you write and/or sing the lyrics and the music backing it. The site Fourfa is a good place to get info. I really don't like genre names beside the big ones like Rock, Rap, Techno, Dance, Classical, etc. Sub-Genres get to complicated. Static-X calls themselves Death Pop Disco. I mean come on.
Yeah, the term is short for emotional, so your point is invalid right from the beginning. Go listen to The Used - It's Hard to Say or Something Corporate - Konstantine, then come back here and tell me emo music has no emotion. Also, just because you hate britney spears doesn't make her music non-emotional.
