The New York Post recently published a review of Linkin Park's concert at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City on March 12th. It discusses nearly all the songs LP played, and is laced with praise for the band. "Hard drivin' park is back in gear." -- March 14th, 2003 Linkin Park had the best-selling album of 2001, in which they welded metal to hip-hop and snagged a Grammy in the process. But where have they been lately? If their Roseland Ballroom performance Wednesday was any clue to Linkin Park's whereabouts since their "Hybrid Theory" disc was released, this SoCal sextet has become one of the best bands in America. That was clear from the songs from their upcoming disc "Meteora" they debuted, the manic but deliberate performance they crafted, and especially the reception they received from the N.Y.C. crowd that packed the house. LP hammered a fast, hour-plus set that was totally satisfying despite its brevity. They delivered their hits along with what they anticipate will be the best of the new disc, and didn't waste anybody's time with filler or marginal tunes to bloat a taut show that never relented. In effect, Linkin Park captured the holy grail of performance - an entire concert that played with the energy, passion and pure goodness of a whiz-bang encore set. The concert opened with "Don't Stay," and without pause went straight into "Somewhere I Belong" and then launched "Lying From You." It was a daring opener because those are also the first three songs from "Meteora" - an album only a handful of critics have heard. Yet all were embraced by the house, even though the new material is radically different from that of "Hybrid." Where the old songs are distinctly rawer, drawing their power from rhythm, the new tunes lean on melody. Of course, the hits were welcomed. "One Step Closer," the night's final tune, was in fact the showstopper, but the band was generous, even working in "With You" (the remix version from "Reanimation"). Linkin Park did falter - stumbling on the soft belly ballad "Easier to Run." That new song has the bombast to make schoolgirls weepy, but it was an ill fit for this show and the new disc. - Dan Aquilante
maybe they like it, but they think it stuck out like a sore thumb with the whole intensity and heaviness of the show.
Darn. I was a little disappointed when I first listened to Easier to Run. I wanted all heavy songs besides SIB and BTH. Nevertheless, that song is very unique. That is what makes it cool
well, that song is kinda different than all others from Meteora. that's way some people dont like it so much, including me. I think dat LP put up a good concert by the song listings.
it seems like the guy who reviewed the concert didnt really like linkin parks new songs, but hey i may be wrong
No, seems like he liked them to me. He just meant it was very daring to open with 3 new songs, 2 of which no one's heard yet.
speaking for myself ... When I listeined to the way LP opened up their concert, it didn't really matter what they were playing it was more about their intensity and what and how they were playing it. The songs went will with the crowd it was risky I do have to say but the greatest men and women of our time have all taken risks...which is why they are greatest icons of our time. LP will go down in history just like the beetles and Rolling Stones and all of us will be old farts putting on their cd's and our kids will think we're a bunch of old geezers who know nothing about music...but won't it feel great rocking out to One Step Closer when your on a wheel chair?
true that, rolling around in your chair bee boppin to some of mikes tunes, lol, as you clean your denchers
