Last night was the third and final Presidential debate between candidates Senator John Kerry and incumbant President George W. Bush. Current polls show that Kerry edged Bush in this final poll, bringing his Win-Loss record to 3-0. (When I can find a poll, I'll post a link. But my government teacher told me today that they said on the news that Kerry won.) What did everyone think of the debate? Personally, I'm getting sick and tired of Bush's wisecracks. I don't care if that shows that he's more human than not, they're unneccesary, ESPECIALLY in a debate. Other than that, I felt that they both did rather well. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say that Bush would've won if he would've been more truthful. What do I mean? Well, he's always saying that Kerry's voted for taxes 98 times. That's a blatant lie. There haven't even been 98 pieces of legislation for tax increases, according to my government teacher. There have only been about 17 that Kerry's voted for, and only a few of them have been passed anyway. Also, when Bush said that Kerry didn't have any bills, that was also a lie. Kerry has over 50 bills in legislation. I'd rather have a president who questions himself and what he's doing rather than have a president who blatantly lies.
Bush is either an idiot....or...an idiot in the aspect you mentioned: Let's say his frequent pauses and stammerings are some deep political strategy to make him see like a normal guy. Hardcore Reps will sometimes say "I like him for his faults." This is completely illogical, do you like a football team because they suck? Do you buy a used car instead of a new one for the same price? Secondly, the president SHOULD be held to a somewhat higher standard....HE'S THE LEADER OR OUR NATION! He represents US, the common folk. If he appears as a dumbass, guess what everyone else will think of us. Thirdly, Bush is hardly and average American, he's a corporate backed millionare with a speech impediment, that is not "average" by any means. Now let's say he really is legitamate in his shortcpmings at the podium. Granted, this shouldn't make or break a candidate, but it does give off the impression that he's just fishing for words....almost like a Freshman highschool student who didn't study and is bullshitting his way through an english term paper. The sad part being, the whole shpiel is 100% rehearsed corporate puppet show. That's my take on presentation. Why is that so important? Because that's basically (and sometimes unfortunately) the biggest impression that will impact the swing voters. Kerry seems more in control and knowledgable, and has done so for the past few debates. Therefore, mindless viewers of America on couches and chairs everywhere will think he's superior. But like I've said time and time again, debates are just puppet shows, and I like Nader.
I thought both parties had good points but I liked Kerry especially because a lot of comments that I told myself that he should say to beat Bush...he did.
Curious George didn't stumble as much as he did in the first to, I'll give him that, but he still had his fair share of #### ups and plenty of lies
John Kerry won yet again. Whether your judge by how they acted or what they said - Kerry took the win. I defidently agree with Will when he talked about Bush's wisecracks. It's not really that the jokes bothered me because I was actually surprised that a man with his intelligence could come up with them - I just don't think the presidential debate is the proper time to make jokes. One point that made me laugh though was when Bush said "that's one of those exadurations." The way he said it made me laugh(not to mention he was telling another lie). I guess whenever a word is more than 3 syllables it's hard for him to say it. He was probably getting the proper pronunciation from Karl Rove through his earpiece. It's only a matter of time now - 18 days I believe...
I think John Kerry really got Bush when he quoted him on that "I'm not conerned about Osama anymore" phrase. Bush denied it but those were almost the exact words. Kerry: "Six months after he said Osama bin Laden must be caught dead or alive, this president was asked, 'Where is Osama bin Laden?' He said: 'I don't know. I don't really think about him very much. I'm not that concerned.' We need a president who stays deadly focused on the real war on terror." Bush: "Gosh, I just don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin Laden. It's kind of one of those exaggerations." Real quote from March 2002; "I don't know where he is. You know, I just don't spend that much time on him. ... I truly am not that concerned about him." New York Daily News
They played the clips of that right after the debate. They had to own Bush, and they owned him hard. It is pretty sad when a nation's president makes a bold-faced lie during a debate for the presidency and then claims that his opponent is making things up. That's sad on so many levels.
Plus the fact that he denied knowing Kenneth Lay (high-up executive in Enron) when the whole Enron scandal was going on. The fact is, pictures were provided of him lounging with Lay and Enron was his campaign's biggest supporter in 2000.
