It's mostly cello actually. Phoenix recorded it with Mike at 'The Stockroom' I believe.

They wrote the intro to match the melody of the song.

Phoenix came up with a great Cello sample for Crawling...I like how they use it live.

I'm pretty sure that's violin at the beginning and then the cello comes in.

Does Phoenix actually play the Violin, or did he play that piece? It's been documented that he wrote the music, but having never had the opportunity to see them live, I wouldn't know if he actually plays any of the orchestral strings, or if the sample was recorded by someone else.

On Reanimation, Phoenix played violin and cello on Opening and Krwlng. Live, Joe just plays the sample. Same with the cello/violin at the end of My December I think.

Umm...no. It even says that Phoenix did both the violin and cello.

I didn't realise the violin / cello were actually played not synth! That's pretty cool, didn't realise that Phoenix was also multi-talented like Mike :p
