Since they're working harder, and being payed less, are immigrants almost on the same level as slaves? (but without being owned by another person and being considered 1/3 of that of a white guy)

I hate to say, gotta agree with Maddox...

As long as their paid a legal wage, it's not slavery. However, I'm against EXPLOITING people. If the guy does a job worth 10 an hour, pay him 10 an hour, whatever his race.

I don't have any problem whatsoever with Hispanics. One of my very best friends is Hispanic, and she's one of the nicest people I know.

I personally haven't got any problem with Hispanics. However, I do see a large portion (and I mean large) of them with a "i'm-a-gun-totin'-drug-dealin-gangster-who-you-should-always-be-wary-of" image. A lot of Hispanic people I see nowadays have tattoos everywhere, wear ratty clothes, and hang out in huge packs, it seems to provide an indimidating image. As far as they go, I haven't got a problem with them personally (I know a lot of Hispanic people, and the ones I know are really nice), but there's a lot of Hispanics out there ( that I see, anyways ) that seem to want to use it to their advantage to look "tough"...

My $0.02...don't shoot me for my observations...

yeah i know what you mean. some people have to look hard and stuff and it makes people think that everyone of that nationality is the same way, but they aren't. hence the birth of racism.

*cough* I'm mix, I'm Mexican and Filipino, and yes there are racists out there, for example my bestfriend Sephora went to go take her nephew to the doctor's and we're only like 14 and the lady was caucasian and she was like "Is this your first?", and Sephora said "no" "Ohh...you have more?" I mean come on wtf is that do you think a 14 yr old would have kids!? I only see that kind of stuff on Jerry Springer. I don't thin you should judge peopel by their race, I know hispanics that can be the nicest people in the world, (mysef included :D ) and there, yes, are others that like to be 'gangsta'. Anyways...

That's the first thing I've read by Maddox that's intelligent and plausible where he doesn't come across as a cynical tw*t. Not that being a cynical tw*t is bad.

Exactly. That's why I never look at a group of people in the same light. Hispanics, as per our example, can be and generally are very nice, hard-working people, just like everybody else. But what I see a lot are the 'gangsta-I'm-gonna-pop-a-cap-in-yo-***' type. There were a lot of this type in and around Chicago when I was down there, but there were a lot of friendly Hispanics as well...something I think shows that they don't all want to be looked at as tough and scary...

Well it's actually asking just generally people in this country, not us specifically.

I have no problems with Hispanics...one of my friends is Hispanic. :)

I have no problems with anyone. I don't look at a person and think of what race they are. Does it matter? It bothers me how some people point out a certain race and talk about them as if they were from another planet.

I think this topic should have been placed in the Racism thread. I think what the topic starter was probably trying to get across was why some people talk about Hispnaics. Like they call them "Spics" or a lot of people on tv and even in real life make fun of Mexicans or Puerto Ricans and stuff like that.

I think last night some hispanics were trying to blow up a target. They put 4 propane tanks in a shopping cart with a bunch of other pieces attached to it, and it looked very fishy. They didn't really try to conceal what they were doing, so it might've just been the soda.

    shortly before the store closed?

I work at Target, and at least at the one I work at has a cleaning crew they hire to clean up the store overnight. Everyone on the cleaning crew is Hispanic and they use the propane to power their floor buffers. Usually about 5 minutes before the store closes you'll see them coming into the store with the propane

oh yeah, you're from the St. Louis area, which Target was it?
