In your opinion, what is it gothic. Is it dressing up in black clothing all the time or is it being depressed all the time/suicidal or something else?
I've never met and truly gothic people. I've heard things about how they don't all wear black or whatever, but I've never seen it for myself. If I find out they eat Count Chocula for breakfast, I'll know they're truly gothic.
Hmm..I can sense this thread will be interesting. Yes, I know a goth person. A few infact. It's all based on speculation. Personally, I think labels suck. And what's the big deal about being gothic anyway? It's like being gay or lesbian..it's your choice.
well I've heard that my friends dress in Gothic clothes but don't act Gothic. Yes i know the Goths are a Germanic tribe...but I'm talking about our stereotypic Gothic.
I consider it for what it is. The "gothic style" was a "rebelious" make up and modified version of the "punk style." It was and still is today, in my opinion, a lifestyle, not an appearance. When in reality, the "gothic" lifestyle isn't too much different from any other. Usually "goths" are those who don't "follow the crowd" and decide to be a "rebel" against certain things and issues. However, Glenn, if you believe the "Goth" lifestyle includings being despressed, suicidal or the consistancy to wear black/dark colors, then I must point and laugh because that is a very shallow ordeal, though I don't blame you. Many people believe that wearing all black or if you're depressed automatically makes you "gothic," however all types of people wear black and a lot more are depressed every now and then. When someone is "depressed," that's being human and our depression comes from negative things that happen in our lives, sometimes things we cannot help. Anyone who says someone else is a goth for dressing in black seriously needs their eyes removed, in my opinion. They don't deserve them, to make any comment like that or any comment so ignorant and blind should be punished, really. I, myself, choose to wear dark colors often. It doesn't make me gothic. Or does it? I mean, okay, if you're to consider me gothic for what I wear, yes, I wear the dark colors, the chains and all the other accessories, but however, I'm also not only into rock music; there's a fan of hip hop in me. So then therefor I am a rap/rock loving goth-boy, eh? But seriously, the way people think another individual is a "goth" these days is horrible, but oddly enough, I think it's a trend waiting to happen again. With the use of chains, darker colors and such, those who dispise their thoughts of the gothic lifestyle will soon be cornered, me thinks. The goth style is basically just another way to live. Much like religion or the differences between being the joker and being the jock. The only thing that differs is the seperation of ideas and or actions. Being rebelious is just the same as having school spirit, or anything else you choose. But Glenn, starting this thread, don't you think you should have posted your thoughts to begin with? Or are you waiting for the next poster to get burned before you say something?
Well then if a lot of people are Gothic, then doesn't that contradict from being away from the crowd?
You choose to not be part of one group. Being rebelious is, however, contradictory, but the reason it's a "major" characteristic is because you don't want to be like every other person on earth. They rather have their own opinions, life, and everything, and it's usually hard for people to accept. Like I said, it's really just like every other lifestyle there is. It's just different.
the reason why i associate myself with gothic people is because: A. they like black B. they like the same music C. they are mainly sad which suits my moods so i say being goth is the same as being punk or whatever. its music that joins people.
These people could be goth... ...or they could be normal people. You choose, be a stereotypist. EDIT: Probably not a word...
i dont know much about goths but i am against any "diffrent looking" people...weither you wearing clowns clothes or your body full pierced or tatoos...why look diffrent... a beautifull person is a natural looking human its not only the black taste but also make up etc. isn't it to get attention?
I'm not goth , but know a few people who are, don't think they wear it for attention ,It's just part of their livestyle or something ', I can't make up another reason either
i can tell you theyre all posers a lot of my "goth" friends arent "real" goths. there are also different types of modern goths like mall goths, cyber goths, etc.
