Time to discuss one of my favorite bands of all-time. I found out about Cold through their "Year Of The Spider" cd released at the beginning of 2003. I'd downloaded it after seeing "Stupid Girl" on Muchmusic's MuchLOUD program one night. With it's descriptive and relatable lyrics of past experinces and happenings, I instantly fell in love with Scooter Ward's storytelling. The songs, often backed by uptempo acoustic guitars (the kind that doesn't lull you to sleep), and other times backed by a great electric guitar, were very magnetic. No wonder Evanescence recruited Terry Balsamo (long-time Cold guitarist) to replace Ben Moody. Scooter's singing was phenominal; his raspy, yet unwavering tone caused by smoking was different from anything I'd hear before. To tell the truth, if I had heard about Cold before 'YotS', I probably wouldn't have liked them at the time. Their previous two albums; the self-titled debut, and sophomore effort '13 Ways To bleed On Stage' were more gothic-inspired and not my tastes at the time. Since listening to the songs on the first two albums after my tastes began to evolve more, the songs on both albums began to grow on me, and eventually I became a big fan of both 'Cold' and '13WTBOS'. They're all different albums, with 'YotS' being the most mature and down to earth album yet. For example, "Cure My Tragedy" was written by Scooter about his sister who was across the country suffering from ovarian cancer. "Sad Happy" is about a girl who was abused by a man, who got revenge eventually. ""Wasted Years" dwells on past mistakes. "The Day Seattle Died" is about Kurt Cobain and Layne Stanley. "Rain Song" is about a close friend who died, and everytime it rains, he feels her presence. There's some real deep stuff on this album, and both the previous ones. Recommended songs; 'Cold' - "Go Away" - "Everybody Dies" - "Serial Killer" - "Ugly" - "Superstar" - "Makes Her Sick" '13 Ways To Bleed On Stage - "No One" - "She Said" - "End Of The World" - "Confession" - "It's All Good" - "Anti-Love Song" - "Sick Of Man" - "Bleed" 'Year of the Spider' - "Wasted Years" - "Black Sunday" - "Sad Happy" - "Cure My Tragedy" - "Remedy" - "Stupid Girl" - "Rain Song" - "Whatever You Became" - "Change The World" - "Gone Away" - "The Day Seattle Died" - "Don't Belong" - "Suffocate" Other - "Check Please" - "Came All The Way" - "With My Mind" - "You Got Away" (Sierra Swan feat. Scooter Ward) - "Ghost In Here" - "Blame" Helpful sites; Official Site Extreme Cold Any other fans? And if you haven't heard this band, you must.
No One is featured on the "A Walk to Remember" soundtrack. I watched the movie with Neil last Saturday, and he was hesitant to believe Cold sang the song. No One is probably my favorite.
YOTS has to be one of my favorite albums of all time...It just sends shivers down the back of your spine, thats how emotional it is! Scooter must've had a hard time writing that album! Confession though has to be my favorite Cold song though (tied with Wasted Years) it's probably one of the most beautiful songs i ever heard!
Cold is easily one of the best bands I've ever heard. I heard of them before Mark got me into them by hearing the song "Just Got Wicked," but I didn't like it at all. Once I heard "Stupid Girl" (thanks to Mark), I was hooked. Actually, if I remember right, we ended up getting each other hooked on Cold since we both recommended tracks to each other. lol.
Oh man Just Got Wicked is one of my favorite tracks off of "13WTBOS." This treack probably got me into their older stuff. Does anyone know if Aaron Lewis is in one of the songs on the self-titles debut? Or for that fact if he makes an appearance on any of their songs?
Pretty simple: when i was in Canada, i heard "Stupid Girl" on an american radio station, The Buzz. I loved it, so the next day i went to HMV where i got the limited edition of YOTS (plus POD's Satellite, but that's a nothe story ). At first i kept listening to Stupid Girl, but then i started getting into the whole album, so now my favourites off it are Suffocate, Remedy,The day Seattle died and Stupid Girl. I'm really looking forward to the next album. Abut the musicians: Scooter is a great lyricist, although i don't really love his voice, the drummer is totally insane and Terry Balsamo was one of my favourite guitarists. I wonder how the new guitarists sound...
Cold are seriously awesome. There's not a song I don't like. I'll have to check out those ones that weren't on any albums. Thanks Mark.
Cold are awesome. I first heard Stupid Girl by them and ended up downloading the whole album and fell in love with it. I haven't heard all of their older stuff. My favourite: Stupid Girl Cure My Tragedy No One Wasted Years
When Cold came out with the single "Stupid Girl" everyone liked it and for some reason I didn't. It's ok and everything but I'm really not much of a fan of Cold. :chemist:
I have Year of the Spider. It's an awesome CD, and I've also heard "With My Mind" which is also an awesome song.
You're not the only one. I still don't dig what's so special about Stupid Girl. But none the less, Cold is pretty darn good. And Mark, you should add Suffocate somewhere on that list too.

[/b][/quote] Stupid Girl is a good song, but not as special as some people think it is, IMO. All of their songs are catchy.
