i dont know all of the crap everybodys posting... but i have a question. by 'father' has this annoying habit of uninstalling and installing windows over and over again. it pisses me off. does he really have to do it or does he do it to piss me off and look professional?
It does help to ocasionally reinstall Windows but not all the time, How often does he do it?
he tries to do it every month or so.
he tries to do it every month or so.
Well i guess thats ok, As long as it doesnt do any harm to your computer, Its fine i think.
what version of windows is he using?
windows xp home edition. if thats what youre asking about.
windows xp home edition. if thats what youre asking about.
well tell your dad he doesnt have to keep reinstalling windows and evry time he does, do a repair install. that way you can keep all the stuff you have.
Right... Right.. okay then. Yea. Yep.. What would you suggest ... (I wrote that in the Random Thoughts topic and then realized that .. well.. I saw this topic. So blah. )
OK, here are my specs. I started with a Seanix, 1999, but I change stuff each year, and few of the original parts I had are left. Seanix Case (No need to change it IMO) 300W Power Supply (Was running on 200W, was about to toast up my PC) ECS K7S5A SiS Socket A Motherboard (About to get out of my comp) AMD Athlon XP 1800+ @ 266 mHz FSB (Will seemingly soon go). Thermaltake Volcano Cu 6+ CPU Fan (Noisy as hell, will leave with MB & CPU) Xelo nVidia FX 5200 128MB Video Card Old SoundBlaster Card, no need to change it ATM. Original Seanix Speakers (2pc.) Original 15 in. monitor (sucks) Original Printer (still works well). Original MS/Seanix Keyboard Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical.
Ok all, bow in wonder to the crap-uter... -900MHz AMD Athlon -640MB PC133 ram -Dual 40GB hard drives (I've had the displeasure of losing a hard drive twice...what an accomplishment...thankfully, Flight Sim 2004 + all my SELF-MADE mods never got touched...phew, there's hundreds of hours of work on that one) -Gateway EV910 19" CRT monitor -32MB GeForce2 vid card -Sound Blaster Live! audio card -No speakers, they got fried by lightning, so I use the Plantronics Audio 90 headset...great set IMO -Standard 32x read DVD drive -(the clincher) ... 8x4x32 CD writer. Yep, takes me 30 mins to burn a CD-R, and almost an hour for the -RWs. Sucks. -Running on Windows ME, which is as stable as the San Andreas fault. I average 10-15 freezes/crashes/BSOD/CTD per day, and I'm gonna kill someone... Anybody who wishes to donate to the Joe Prokopanko fund may send their system to......erm............never mind. I'm building a new system based on the Athlon 64 this summer, provided I can cough up the three grand. Getting a job for that one...and the fact that my car now needs a thousand bucks in repairs won't help. Yep, I got run off the road by some drunk at the lake, who didn't even stop. Idiot. Anyways, that's my POS. The real bottleneck on it is the flight sim, which has some...erm...custom modifications, like custom traffic, sceneries, AFCAD, etc.... that sucks resources. I get about 3 frames per second if I crank everything. Man, that proggie's hard on memory...cranking everything is asking for the blue screen...in fact, it's like trusting a monkey with a shotgun... Anybody have any other horror stories about their system? :chemist:
well tell your dad he doesnt have to keep reinstalling windows and evry time he does, do a repair install. that way you can keep all the stuff you have.
thanks man. i wish i could do that, but unfortunately, my 'father' doesnt listen to me (even if im right).
