Many of my friends, many of them being into metal, punk, and jazz...also like Ska. Well, I knew basically what ska was but never took the time to check it out. Well, so when a friend of mine was forming a ska band and asked me if I wanted to play keyboards/saxophone if he could get this going I had to say yes! (So far we have drums, bass, guitar, trombone, trumpet, and myself doing tenor sax/keyboards). And our guitarist has already given me a file of some guitar melodies that I've started writing keyboard parts for, but I want to listen to more ska so I can write it better.... Are there any good ska bands/songs that you like? If you do please post them, I'm really loving the grooves and soul of reggae and the musical complexity of jazz....great stuff from what I've heard so far!
I don't listen to a whole lot of ska that much so I can't really recommend any songs but check out these two bands: *Less Than Jake *The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Yeah, I don't listen to it myself, either, but I know some bands: Mustard Plug Deals Gone Bad Against all Authority Big D & The Kids Table Catch 22 The Indecisives
Thanks, everyone!! I'll definately check them out....I have heard some Rancid, Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish before, but I guess since it was some of their newer stuff it was more punk (especially for Rancid).
Well, old No Doubt anyway..but then I'm not too sure about the stuff from Rock Steady really. I think Goldfinger can be considered ska.. :wth:

Tragic Kingdom and Return of Saturn are good examples of ska.
Operation Ivy!!!!! They're Ska/punk (or SkaCore). I recommend "Steppin' Out," "Bad Town," and "Sound System." "Unity" and "Junkie's Runnin' Dry" are great as well. Desmond Dekker is supposed to be an amazing Ska artist, but I haven't heard anything by him.
