For North American markets: "One Step Closer" was a great choice for a first single. Same with "Crawling" as the second single. "One Step Closer", the anthematic song on the album, solidified that hard rock sound right from the beginning and was an instant anthem for rock music listeners across the world. "Crawling", which showcased Mike and Chester's great, profound writing abilities (although not shown other than on BTH on 'Meteora') with relatable lyrics and a hard rock riff. It had a very agressive chorus too. It gave them, again, the hard rock persona. "In The End" was obviously the poppy track they wanted to release to sell tons of albums. Unfortunately, it pushed LP into the pop-radio mainstream. This lost them respect from alot of non-fans, while garnering the attention of lots of 12 year old girls who listen to Nsync. . "Somewhere I Belong" wasn't a great representation of 'Meteora'. The whole "I wanna" part of the chorus kind of throws it off. Big success, nonetheless. Very anthematic, again. "Faint" was a great choice because it was another hard rocking song, with heavy guitar and a great balance of rapping, singing and screaming. Very great riffs. "Numb" and "Breaking the Habit", the lighter songs which lean closer to the pop-mainstream than the previous two releases from 'Meteora' are and will be huge successes, but it seems that it's solely a plan from Warner Bros to sell more records. "Lying From You" has been a surprise hit and was a good choice for the hard rock reputation. I think 'Hybrid Theory' had better choices for singles. I wish the label would focus more on the rock side than the "how can we make money off of this soon-to-be-overplayed-on-pop-stations song" focus.
HT had One step closer , Crawling, and IN the end.Papercut doesn't count cause it was international. Meteora has somewhere I belong, faint, and numb . From the inside and Lying from you don't count because they are a piece of crap. Well somewhere I belong is better than one step closer. Except the one step closer in the LIve in TX which is the best variation of it I have heard. Second single Crawling vs Faint Crawling is way better. I would have never guessed Faint would be such a hit in the rock stations. Third is In the end versus Numb Sure IN the end is the most succesful cause it got played in all the station including pop and is Linkin Parks only number 1hit.Numb peaked in Number 11 in the hot 100 and is second most succesful song in the mainstream. But I think NUmb is better. LP will relase BTH which is by far the best LP song ever!!!! Top 5 LP songs 1. Breaking the Habit 2. Push me away 3. Numb 4. IN the end 5. My december
First off, Papercut counts because, it IS actually a single, international or not. Secondly, FTI and LFY also count because its your opinion that they suck. I happen to think LFY is great, although its just a radio single.
