Okay, so our school hosted this Jazz/fusion group that featured this amazing guitarist, Levon Ichkhanian. After the concert I went up and talked to him (he was quiet but a nice guy), and picked up one of his CD's, 'Travel'. He won the award for 'Best Jazz/Fusion album' at the 2002 Armenian Music Awards. He mixes traditional jazz music with Brazilian, Latin, and Middle Eastern grooves featuring instruments like accordion sounds, saxophones and flutes. Anybody who likes jazz here should definately check him out...his soloing is melodic and emotional but it can get really technical at times with some intense playing. Definately in my top 10 fav. guitarists. Here's a link to some sound samples: 'Travels' Sound Samples I recommend 'One World', 'Eduoardo's Cafe', and 'We'll Meet Again'.
Well I'm glad you like it! They played that one live, with lots of extended soloing and stuff! It was amazing. B)
It's way more mellow than stuff I usually listen to.. I can see myself listening to this on a summer night or something. It's not bad but I can't seem to get into it.
I know what you mean! Its really mellow for me too since I'm into all sorts of metal but I have always been into jazz so it took me only a little while to get used to it. I'd give it a bit of a chance, but yea I usually only listen to it when i go to bed and put on my headphones or something.
