This game recentely dropped down to 19.99 over at Target so after I had eyed it up for over a year I decided now was finally the time to ask my dad to get it for me. So anxiously waiting to try out this game, my dad walked through the door and handed it to me and I put it in my PS2.

When you first come across the game's sleek title menus you'll get the feeling like you stumbled into a crime movie from the early 60's, but once you hit "New Game" your opinions are changed drastically.

The Getaway is not a game for the faint of heart. Containing heavy language and some violent torture scenes, this game deserves its M rating more then any other game on the market right now (unless you include Manhunt).

When making The Getaway, Team Soho hired professional british actors for the game and it shows. Not only are the characters highly detailed but their voice acting never skips a beat. Rather then overact parts, as seen in so many games today, the acting is exact and dead on to what's happening at the moment, with fluid animations that help to make the experience more convincing then it already is.

One thing that takes a while to get used to is that The Getaway has absolutely no indicators or 'health pills' like other games in the genre. If you get shot you will bleed and slowly begin to lose your strength, if you wish to stop bleeding you'll have to limp to a quiet and safe area and rest against a wall until "Mark" is strong enough to move on. You wont find a floating blip off in the distance that will restore your health to 100% so its better to take cover when in firefights and quickly duck out, then run out with your guns blazing.

Another amazing thing is that the enemy driver A.I. is ruthless. If you're speeding down a street, dodging cars and trying to avoid a car behind you, your tail will literally swerve in your direction to try and knock you off the road, or force you into a car coming in the opposing direction.

Speaking of driving, the graphics in this game and the reproduction of London is incredible. Team Soho recreated over 40 Square miles of London in this game and their work is amazing, you truly get the feeling your speeding through the streets of London and you never feel like the team had some 'creative freedom' with the environments around you.

The missions on foot are just as hard as your enemies will try anything (even dropping a heavy box on your head) to try and kill you. You wont find stupid enemies here, instead you'll have to take cover and strategically fire to ensure you wont die a quick and painless death at the hands of your enemies.

Overall I'd give this game a 8.7/10. Definitely worth the money.

I love the Getaway. I haven't played it for ages cuz i got stuck on a bit of it. My Dad has completed it though. It's a very good game and quite challenging at times. I can't remember how much i got it for but it wasn't cheap i can tell you that...

Yeah that is really funny  . The one thing i don't really like about the game is that you are always on a mission. Whereas in Vice city and games like that you have the freedom to roam around without having to worry about a mission.

i cant think off a bigger rip off of Grand Theft Auto, all these crime games these days are 100% influenced by GTA. if GTA didnt exist, they wouldnt exist. simple

I thought the Getaway was an OK game, the things i didnt like about it were that there were only 3 guns in the entire game, and you have to do missions the whole time unlike me who is a cheater who put in cheats to unlock the free roam thing before i beat the game. Plus most of the missions are impossible to beat like the last one where you have to fight your way off the boat before it explodes i hated that one :wth: The Getaway 2 is coming out soon i just hope they do a better job with that one then they did with the first.

As Mark Hammond would say, "You bloody muppet". Have you even played the game? It's nothing like Vice City AT ALL. It is not a "Cheap rip off of Vice City set in London". No, if anything its almost completely different and actually better then Vice City.

Try to play games before you make silly assumptions like that ;). Thanks.

Complete the game and you get to play the "Free Roam" mode in Extra Features, which allows you to go around London and visit all the popular spots.

That’s pretty cool, considering there were loads of "crime" games before Grand Theft Auto ever became popular (and a menace to parents all across America).

Exactly. And it wasn't until Vice City (FOUR GAMES INTO THE GTA SERIES MAY I ADD) that it actually became the least bit controversial. There was a lot of games before GTA of that type and if he would actually research stuff before he posts he would see this.

The Getaway is not only better than Vice City, it's about 1000 times more controversial.
