Since I am apparently taking yet another "break" in studying, I was wondering how you guys study for tests or exams (if you do). I can't seem to focus so I was wondering how you study and if you have any advice to offer. I can't seem to remember a lot of the stuff I read either. After reading one page, none of it seems to sink in, but enough ranting for now.

Edit: That was supposed to be "share your study rituals.." Can someone fix that please?

I don't study. Every time that I do study, I fail the test. When I don't study, I usually do really good. To me, studying just makes you too worried about the test and then you end up forgetting everything when it comes time for the test. If you don't study, you're not worrying about it and you retain everything. At least that's how I am.

    I study two ways:

1.) Right before I go to bed so it's the last thing I look at and think about before I fall asleep.

2.) A few minutes before the actual test. If I look over the information a few minutes before the test I remember better that way since I just looked at it.

I guess this is more how I do homework...

If I'm doing math or something that doesnt require much concentration, listening to music really helps.

But if its reading or seriously studying, the one advise I have for you is: stay away from the computer. ;)

I don't study. I just take notes during class and someone memorize them the moment I write them down.

Heh, you know that I don't study. ;) Ok, not really, but when I study I usually read over notes and the books necessary for the class. If I really really need to concentrate, then I turn off the computer and the music and EVERYTHING and study. Sometimes when I really gotta concentrate and it's getting close to test time, I go to the library.

Cram. That's all I do. Long term studying doesn't work for me. Its either I cram the night before, or in most cases, the period before the test, or I don't study at all. But when I do cram I have to put a twelve foot radius between me and the computer, or else nothing gets done. Hasn't been working out too well.

So as far as advice goes, I'd suggest cramming works better than "studying a little bit each night." Though that technique might work for serious tests, finals, etc. It also probably depends on the type of learner you are, and from there your preferances for studying. Otherwise for quizzes and the weekly test, just cram.

In order for me to pass a test, I have to cram minutes before. If I try to study over a period of time, I forget it. I have a memory problem where I blank out when put under pressure.

Sometimes my memory is so bad that you can tell me something, I can acknowledge it, and forget it the next second. I'm worried about this problem of mines because it's making me fail in school  :wth:.

I agree with Will... Studying usually just makes me freak out more. I look stuff over though beforehand.

It works best for me if I go over everything little by little, but take breaks in between. I start forgetting stuff if I sit there for too long, and pretty soon I'm just staring *blankly* with nothing running through my brain. ***tumbleweeds*** :teehee:

I don't study. I just do the work in class and hopefully I remember it.

I have my first big important senior school test on Wednesday week. It's a 2 hour math one. I will not do good.

Advise: Turn everything off in your room, and just one light above your book. Close the curtains so you cant look outside :p

    Works for me..

when i study i type notes on the computer and then print them off( i do this cause im kinda the person in the class that everyone asks questions and copies off, but i dont mind). this helps me remeber. then the day before and/or of the test me and my friends test each other off these notes as much as possible.

also if i write sumthin out a couple of times, (i dont even use ledgible writing i basically scribble.) it helps me remeber.

i always listen to music while studying. :p

I don't revise for anything really. Everytime i revised for a test i got really bad marks than when i don't. Obviously i do a little bit or revision if it's a really important test that determines my setting for my subjects but for end of topic tests i don't even bother to revise cuz i know i will get a crap mark for it

This one is kind of weird. Ready for it?

    1) Turn on the Weather Channel. No music, phone, computer or talking with anyone! NO DISTRACTIONS!
    2) Start studying...
The Weather channel helps you realize how interesting whatever you're studying is.

I'm serious it works for me!! :teehee:

When we get study guides, I usually take a look at my notes and type them out in an organized fashion and print them onto a couple of sheets of paper. It condenses the amount of papers I'm carrying around. Why look at 25 sheets of paper when you can look at 4 pages of notes, put in orderly and comprehensibly? By typing the ntoes, it helps me remember what I'm learning. It's a really good way to study.

    1) Turn on some music.
    2) Pull out a pen/pencil
    3) Read the notes/book while drawing on them.

The most I ever study for is one hour max.

I either study during the middle of the test

or at home at 10 at night with music blairing the tv on and forgetting about the studying and test
