I'm sorry, but I'm gonna tell the truth.

I have nothing against disabled/mentally retarded people at all. I don't like to poke fun or disrespect them in any way at all, but sometimes I can't help but laugh.

    For example..
There's this one guy at my high school, I think he's a sophomore. Anyways he's got that disease that makes your face look really weird, and you can't talk right. Well he's at least 300 pounds, and when he walks, he waddles. And I know it's wrong, but I laugh. Also, when he talks, he like quacks, and they aren't words, just sounds, and they sound funny, it doesn't matter how nice of a person you are or anything, if you heard it, you'd laugh.

Anyways, I know it's wrong, but we're human, and sometimes you yourself can't control laughing or poking fun, let alone another person or the government, besides, they've taken enough freedoms from us.

The people I don't like are the ones who go up to them and start calling them names, or just laughing right in there face, and I would never do that.

Also, when we are kidding around with our friends we often (at least me and my friends do, I dunno about you and yours) call eachother "retard" or "stupid" or "gay", (we use all 3 excessively, especially the latter) and while we are doing this, we are making fun of others disibilities or preferences without thinking about it.

My point is, it's normal to make fun of others. But don't take it to the extremes, all of you have made fun of someone in your life, and someone has done the same to you, it's human nature, we're not perfect, and we never will be.

The place I go to to help me get a job is below a place called Bonnie Lea Farms. It's a place for the mentally handicapped to live.

Although I've never had a problem with them, sometimes it's hard to be around them. Floyd, one of the people who live at Bonnie Lea and he comes down to visit SSWAP often. He always wants a hug from me and I can't understand what he says, but I know what he's saying when he tells me he misses me and he loves me. He even gives me kisses and it's a good feeling that somebody like that is so compassionate. On Friday's we have Rec & Leasure and Floyd always plays basketball in Bonnie Lea Farms' gym with perticipants from SSWAP. He tries to get me to play but I'm awful, so I go up to be his cheer leader. :)

I haven't always been that nice to people like that. I knew a guy a few years older than me who got this crush on me. He would try to kiss me and act like the biggest idiot around me. It kind of made me uncomfortable and people would pick on him. He was going around saying we were dating and stuff like that, so I was really rude towards him. I made it up in the 11th grade before he moved away though, which is a good thing. But I feel bad for all the years I made fun of him.

Another person I adore, even though he's a ficional character is Forrest Gump. If only people thought more like him and it wasn't always hate and things like that. Forrest was a sweetheart, even though his obsession with Jenny was kind of scary if you think about it, haha.

i dont think laughing at people with mental or physical disorders makes you a bad person. i dont do it cos i can control myself, but as you said, iamthealmighty dude, we are all human. we make mistakes and crap. but of course its better when you can control yourself and not make the kid feel bad.

My sister is one of those "special people" you guys are talking about. I don't think that its people just trying to make fun of them, i think its just because they rn't understood. My sister has CP and is pretty much useless in "money" eyes. But shes funny, i dont think that when she sais something stupid and we laugh because its so "retarted" that she minds i think that shes just using what she has to entertain us because we entertain her. I can't help but crack jokes on people like that, even my sister being handycapped. I think that as long as its clean and its tastefull its ok. I am, however sick of seeing people pick on and abuse these kids. I'm sorry i saw this forum and had to jump, and didn't even answer your question.

Yeah, I get you. A normal joke is cool. But like, making fun of the kid or beating on them isn't. I do the same #### with my situation. As long as the joke doesn't go too far or hurts someones feelings, ya know.

The way things are going now... being asses to these people is becoming more mainstream. It's bad now that I think about it. But no matter what happens, there will still be discrimination due to the fact that people know when other people aren't the same as they are. :chemist:

'Special people' are probably the nicest people you could ever meet. All they want is some attention and love. Its so sad that people flee from these people like they're made of volitile chemicals.

[edit] I can't not put this here, because I have my flaws too.

There's this kid at my school, he's hardly handicapped, he has a 'gimpy' arm and he walks lopsided and he talks like a cartoon character would go "duhhhh". Anyway, my friends and I call him 'The Captain" just because. He's actually a fairly smart kid. Anyway, we always try to start up a conversation with him because he always says the stupidest things. It's not that he can't be smart, it's just that he doesn't think its something people will make fun of him for. One time my friend was standing there and he came up and asked where he could buy some good jamaican food on a budget of 5$. Another time, he was saying he didn't like tacos and my friend says "Why don't you like tacos, Chris?" and he yells as loud as possible "BECAUSE IT GIVE ME GAS YOU ASS!" Point is, sometimes you can't help being human
