Ben Young, one of Linkin Park's guitar techs, has appeared on This Is DeLaCruz, a YouTube series hosted by former live audio engineer Nick DeLaCruz which focuses on the crew members that help to make live tours possible. Having worked in the music industry for over two decades now, Young speaks in the interview about how he first ended up becoming a guitar tech, how he came to work for Linkin Park, and some highlights from the road. He also goes over some of the gear involved in his side of the Linkin Park shows, and, of course, the guitars. After years of providing engineering assistance during studio sessions, Young first began working with Linkin Park officially in 2014, becoming Brad Delson's guitar tech during the Hunting Party touring cycle. That wasn't all he ended up doing for the band during this period, as Delson had to miss three festival shows - two in Brazil in late 2014 due to illness, and the 2015 edition of Rock on the Range in Columbus, OH due to the birth of a child in his family - and Young filled in for him on-stage, impressively taking on both performer and tech roles for those dates. As he tells in the interview, he had fortunately learned all those guitar parts in advance (at Delson's urging) and, thus, was prepared for the challenge. Following the Hunting Party run, Young continued to work with Linkin Park in the studio and on tour, remaining a guitar tech for the One More Light tour legs before the band was forced to cancel their world tour plans in 2017. Years later, when Linkin Park began preparing for new live performances ahead of their 2024 From Zero launch, Young was brought back on-board as Alex Feder's guitar tech. During the years between, he formed and fronted a band called Knifes alongside other tour crew members, something he felt emboldened to do after successfully performing for massive crowds with Linkin Park. This interview with Ben Young on the DeLaCruz channel follows an interview with Jim Ebdon, Linkin Park's front-of-house engineer, posted at the start of July. Source: This Is DeLaCruz on YouTube
